Just a quick question for you all.......Freedom of press; Does it exist currently?

only with independent news sources, but even those are biased... the rest are sensored and subjected to the beliefs of the shot callers within the organizations

Free Press?

No such animal in the MSM (main stream media). Question what would happen to Katie Couric if she or any of her co-horts tried to express anything other than a Liberal biased viewpoint. They would lose their big fat salaries, limos and other ass kissed perks. They would fire her in a second.

way to indoctrinate the masses. It is one of the steps in Communism. The liberal arts colleges teach these writers/hacks and indoctrinate them. Liberalism is so pervasive in the school systems. 87% of all teachers are Liberals. So their you go. in a nutshell.

Now that doesn't encompass religious schools or some private institutions, but it is for Public Schools and the NEA

Freedom of the Press

does not exist, as organizations are not allowed to print whatever they want, like porn on the front page of newspapers, cigarette ads on TV, and so on. Liberal or Conservative views are shown based on what the owners of the various news agencies want. Remember that MSNBC and Fox are not government owned organizations and employment there is based on doing what you're told. A McDonald's employee would get fired for telling people at the drive through window that Taco Bell is better and rightly so. If Katie Couric wants to express a conservative viewpoint, there are news organizations she can apply for a job with. Complete freedom of the press does not exist, but freedom to express a view is not stopped by any government entity, only by the BOD. As for why so many are left-leaning, thank the counter-revolution for that. The libs are cool, sexy, hip. Conservatives are seen as dinosaurs who want to keep this country from progressing, and with so many people who have never served in the military and have no idea what it means to sacrifice for something greater, old American ideas of liberty mean nothing. If you polled the entire military, I can prety much guarantee you'd have a huge majority of red voters over blue voters. Not saying only the military is like that, but as a section of our society, the military is overwhelmingly conservative. Funny how the people who actually go to war support the ones who tend to send us to war, huh?

valid point, however, when this is the only news which exists and nothing can be done to stop sheeple from believing it, what is the alternative?

The solution is easy

More conservative news organizations need to be started. I'm not sure why this hasn't happened, considering the ratings Fox news programs enjoy, but oh well. The solution is an easy concept, but the execution just doesn't happen. There are a lot of left news agencies, but Fox News has a huge audience compared to any of them.

I think Fox has proved they can air whatever they want. The rest appear to be puppets of the government.

It's not a conspiracy. It's just that the journalism majors who went to school in the turbulent sixties and seventies are now in charge. They are overwhelmingly liberal. Why? because they couldn't hack math and science. Back then it was easy to get into college--really. As long as you were verbal, you could get into a social science program and graduate simply by writing term papers in coherent English. Communications majors are not faced with difficult courses such as organic chemistry. They learn to slide on their words. There's plenty of time left over to attend your anti-government protests. In otehr words, the more highly intelligent students take math, science, and engineering. The less highly intelligent students take the social sciences, which are far easier.

I have a first cousin who recently left a journalism job in California. He worked as a copy editor for one of the Scripps-Howard papers. (Copy editors are journalists who put on headlines, edit stories, make it all fit on the page. He is, btw, a gunslot member, though fairly inactive.) he tells the story of how stories get printed. His Chief Editor could choose which stories were printed. When stories began arriving 'over the wire' on the success of The Surge in Iraq, he would toss them. When a story of a Bush-driven success reached the newsroom, he would discard it. He, and every other reporter there had an anti-Bush mindset. My cousin learned he had to keep quiet or fact the wrath of even the weatherman on board because they were so emotionally anti-Bush.

As a result the American public wasn't even informed of the success of the Surge until it became utterly overwhelming. We won the war, essentially, without the Anmerican public being told. It was only through people like Michael Yon (http://www.michaelyon-online.com/) who wrote 'Moment of Truth in Iraq' that he success leaked out.
