Most defensive shootings occur at ranges under 7 yds, but of course you should be prepared for more in case you have to fight the sniper regiment of the 9th Mongolian Horde, so training at 18 yds and in, with an emphasis on speed and accuracy at 10 yards and in is my recommendation.
