Range Time.

I just got back from the range.
50Rds each .38 & .45 I really
can't remember the last time I
fired a gun and my target looks
like it was hit with a scattergun
but what a blast :<)).
The new eyes work just fine, now
to redevelop my skills...

Congrats Daisycutter

Our thoughts and wishes have been answered. Good shooting, it is fairly easy when you can see the target.

Thanks SamD,

As I was leaving I axed the guy that
does the CC testing what is required
to qual, he said keep them all on the
paper @ 10yds. The "paper" is 8.5"X11"
holey frejoles, I can do that with a
Daisy Red Rider.
They don't allow bullseye targets for
some reason so I can't give you numbers
for todays shoot but the groups were tight.

I had missed this one Lou.. you sure you can keep a red rider on paper at 10 yds.. Not sure i could.. last time i fired one it had a slice like my golfing before i gave it up.. not sure what caused the bb to spin but it did..

you guys remember having bb gun fights when you were a kid.. Mom would always ask why we were wearing long sleeve wool shirts in the summer..

Had about 5 or 6 of us young smart ass trouble makers in the neighborhood, we all had bb guns, and man did that lead to some good times.. it's good stuff when you and some other fool are trapped in a berm with bb's throwing dirt up..

obviously watched to many "combat" shows on tv.. i remember sure enough one of the kids got hit in the eye.. didn't lose it.. if i remember right it just hit the corner of his eye.. we were all crying when we took him home..

The amazing thing is with in the next couple 3 years we had talked or folks into giving us all .22's

back later guys.. got some work to do... remember maynard g krebs on Dobie.. WORK !!

Red Rider BB guns

Lemme tell ya a thing or 2 'bout them guns. First, gettin' shot in the back at a range of 5 feet hurts like crazy! Run and tell Mommy would earn me wrath I can't describe in polite company.

If you're going to shoot someone in the back at a range of 5 feet to pay 'em back for shooting you make sure the cocking lever is in the fully home position and the skin on the palm of your hand is not between the lever and the stock when you squeeze off the shot. Blood Blister from hell ! Pain so intense you forget to run for your life !!
I think I may be able to qual with a RR BB gun, need to find one and give it a try :<)

daisy...

you know the oldest..mother of the gkids etc.. was a tad gun shy.. i remember a major sceen on Thanksgiving bout 5 years ago.. the oldest was going on three..i brought out a new purchase.. first thing i did knowing her "phobia" was show her it was unloaded.. then started to show the son-n-law..(hunter, all around great guy).. all of a sudden i get a "DAD!! how could you do that"..

I'm in the normal confused duh mode... honestly didn't know what she was talking about.. it was of course about having the gun in the room.. couldn't believe it.. don't think the kid was even talking yet.. and i had "exposed" her to some made up "trama" ... sheessshhh

i said "its not pornography ya know"..Things got a tad rocky for a few weeks.. we made up of course but it was always an issue.. till this year..

were sitting at the Thanksgiving talble.. (yeah i like to ruin em)... and kidding each other about stuff.. so i say to the oldest..."well honey i see daisy now makes the RR in pink" (true) "i'm thinking about getting one as a chirstmas gift"..

great to be able to laugh about past "issues" she did... we did... and to her credit has NOT asked me not to... maybe next year..

Ouch

You two got me looking at both hands and remembering......"yeah, had a blood blister there, and there...... " That half cocked deal made me scream like a girl, that'll take "the rifleman" right out of ya. Wasn't nobody around besides siblings to have bb gun fights with, and mom in her infinite wisdom, only allowed one gun out the door at a time. Which meant anyone with half a brain stayed indoors till big brother came back in. Good times!

But it's some interesting reading. Since I gave my International Harvester to my son I've not paid as much attention to the M1s

First ..thanks Lou have it marked in favorites..

Hamp.. are you believ'n this stuff.. here we are in casa grade (bout exuidistance from our homes).. i had an inventory from sis-n-law already... and of course had shot all of garys pieces;.

i still have llike 10 maybe 12 ammo cans (these are the narrow M--82 200 round ones) on the inventory it had 30.06 ammo.. and i know when Gary got his elk he was talk about what a work out it was hauling that old rifle around, i knew he had used 30.06 on it.. dumb me.. i missed that he had a Garand..

rear of reciever says US rifle cal 30 M1 second line springfield armory third 767455 on the bolt it has D28287 1 WRA.. the stock is some sorta dark wood on forward both top and bottom, and rear stock is lighter brown.. cleaning kit "appears" to be complete in butt..

I won't keep it of course (ugly as sin, and not one inch of the stock (there BE a LOT of stock on a Garand) that doesn't look like it was beat with a rasp..what litlte steel you can see is in the white.. and while the bolt slams home with "authority" it sounds like a cleaning is in order..

info on it, and another disclaimer (sp check will be correct by vaq this afternoon) is the Garand available.. yep.. and it will be priced right, all $ go to sis-n-law, but besides the FFL hassle this one has another negative.. its one heavy piece and frt (buyers) will be high. plus in all honesty its one of the "roughest" rifles ive seen in like 50 plus years of shooting..

I am keeping the SMLE .. which is just the opposite in condition.. later all

Sounds rough Greg,

but it would likely make a great shooter. Some of my nicer mil-surp rifles I don't take out for fear of trashing the furniture, there is something to be said for an ugly rifle.

Daisy, Hamp..

REAL cheap.. just checked blue book of gun values..they only go to a low of 60%, this one has had a LOT of wear.. haven't checked the bore yet, but besides what i posted it also has a three diget number 328 stamped on the stock and in white paint..

So guessing brother picked this up after it did range duty.. the price would be in the low range.. going to talk to my dealer guys.. I know everyone..self included would like to have a Garand.. but the shipping and FFL on this might out weigh a good price... and to be honest im not even sure its worth the cheapest i saw in print which was 250..

I'm trying to find a usb cable to get some pics up.. (this from a guy who cant find sp check) .. I've done it before tho, so sure i can do it again.. i have a LOT just from what i brought in yesterday i want you all to see.. including a 94, and the SMLE (lou its marked 1944) the 94 is pre angle eject and perfect, the SMLE is i better condition than i remember.. Don't know why the Garand is so rough, all else is really good.. guessing brother got it way cheap..

tell ya, I've seen some Garands that were in "Good" condition mangled into junk by well meaning owners. They "sporterized them, they "bedded" the barrel and replaced the sights.
When they finished the "good" M1s would be suitable as bumper jack handles and piss poor shooters at that.
What I'd guess is that he got it at a very low price because a previous owner "fixed it up". Maybe?

Your SMLE, a Number 4 or Number 5 ?
I'm not sure but it seems the Australians built their own version of the Number 5 and chambered some of those for .45ACP. Nifty, huh?
