I mean this report just really suprised me detainees that are let loose return to attacking us? But Obama said it wouldn't be, we close Gitmo and they'll love us NOT.
WASHINGTON - One in five terrorism suspects released from the Guantanamo Bay prison has returned to the fight, according to a classified Pentagon report expected to stoke an already fierce debate over President Barack Obama's plan to close the military prison.
The finding reflects an upward trend on the recidivism rate, although human rights activists who advocate closing the prison have questioned the validity of such numbers.
Early last year, the Pentagon reported that the rate of released detainees returning to militancy was 11 percent. In April, it was 14 percent. The latest figure was 20 percent, according to a U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the report had not been declassified and released.
Critics of the reports say there is so little information in the assessments that they are nearly impossible to verify independently. Civil rights advocates say the number of fighters suspected of or confirmed as returning to the battlefield is likely to be much smaller.
According to a senior administration official, the White House has not been presented with information that suggests that any of the detainees transferred during the Obama administration has returned to the fight.
Closing Gitmo
Meanwhile, Republicans say the rising number suggests the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, cannot be closed because that would mean either releasing hardened terrorists back into the fight or moving them into U.S. prisons, which many Americans oppose.
"Guantanamo remains the proper place for holding terrorists, especially those who may not be able to be detained as securely in a third country," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday.
Although Obama said Tuesday that he still wants to close the detention facility, Defense Department press secretary Geoff Morrell suggested Wednesday that such plans were on hold. Congress has put severe limits on the endeavor.
"We are right now left without either the money or the authority to move detainees from Guantanamo Bay," Morrell said.
Release of Yemenis on hold
Under significant political pressure, Obama has said he won't release any more detainees to Yemen because of al-Qaida's grip on that nation. Nearly half of the remaining 198 detainees at Guantanamo Bay are from Yemen.
U.S. officials believe two Saudis released from Guantanamo, one in 2006 and the other in 2007, may have played significant roles in al-Qaida activities in Yemen.
The Christmas Day attack on a jet arriving in Detroit has heightened concerns about Yemen because the suspect, a 23-year-old Nigerian passenger, claimed to be acting on instructions from al-Qaida operatives in Yemen.
Just days before the attempt to bring down the jetliner, the Obama administration sent six men held at the Guantanamo Bay detention center back to Yemen.
Republicans and an increasing number of Democrats in Congress had called on the administration to stop Guantanamo transfers to Yemen in light of the attack.

yes it's late

and a 10 year old could tell you that these fucks are going back into the fight after being in gitmo, like runy says, they got the best medical and are in their prime to go back into the mix,and they have new skills they probably honed in prison,if one of the bastards wasn't a moslem jihadist when they went in,they sure as fuck are now and anybody that doubts it is stupid.
Now if the CIA could just put a tracking beacon on them and let the little rats scurry on back, maybe a big ass bomb will follow them, but i'm just a positive thinking person i guess.

imagine if he would of succeeded, would that have woke up these dipshits?and i'm referring to politicians here, maybe we should fly the gitmo detainees out on a plane and give them each a shoe bomb that does work.

Gee, no kidding?

You mean people who have given up a life with their families and ebraced a life of living in caves and mud huts to fight us are actually returning to the fight after we've made them more combat capable by feeding them and treating their medical issues? No way.

Yemenies.. runny would be off on a tangent with this one.. yemenie cricket. Ok, back to the real world (or whats left of it) thiers like 200 inmates in Getmo. By the way, i was never on a prison yard that ONLY had 200 inmates.. That alone is odd.. So anyway thier not going to send them back to Yeah man (my pick for official gunslot nation name) due to the recidivism, and how they ever came up with figures on that that have any credibility is amamzen, but will assume they did. What then becomes of the poor boys.. No nation wants them, and if (a big if i might add) Getmo is ever closed what option is there but the streets of downtown LA.. I can see it now, in couple of years will have a new reality tv show. "those crazy yemenies".. maybe "enimey yemenie".. no i got it.. "my favorite Jehodist".. I would really like to know when i turned the corner, i'm pretty sure i usta be normal..

I've got it! Let's pack up the 200 Yemeni assholes & send them to Antarctica! The first al-Qaeda scientific expedition! Of course, they can only take their robes and doorags and their Korans to keep them warm. Tell them to make igloos and eat penguins. Every day or so, spray them with water cannons.

I think it would help us out if they tattooed bullseyes on the foreheads of all at gitmo...something nice and bright. And if they move them to Northern Il and were released they would have to walk thru Chicago to the airport...right by ebear..got a pretty good idea of what would happen if he saw one of them sobs walking. Interesting show ideas too!!LOL

The only thing that would make this better for me right now is if we were all sitting around a camp fire someplace (warm) and swaping stories about the wifes, pasing cold ones around, and generaly laughing our butts off.
