Well.....

You do know what they call the politician that tells the truth, right?

THE LOSER!

Unfortunately Tommy Lee Jones summed up American politics in Men in Black. Individual people are smart, people in large groups are stupid and scared by the truth, hence some of the 'leaders' we've put into power.

close to being candid, 100% truth can be too destructive to innocent people.

"A man does what he must - in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures - and that is the basis of all human morality."
Winston Churchill

Do we have any real men left in politics?

I haven't found one lately. I'll keep looking though, and hoping.

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

I agree that Reagan was the closest we'll ever have to a leader with the right level of candor, which is why he was the best we ever had or ever will have. The problem is either we get a candidate or even an elected official who's not candid enough or is outright deceitful: Romney and Obama, who I call the Photonegative Twins, since they're just each other in the opposite color. Or we get someone who is entirely too candid and wipes themselves out: Rick Perry, anyone? Or how about we cross to the left and go back a few decades to Jimmy Carter and his comment about intellectual malaise. The problem I've noticed is that most people want the truth, but not the raw truth. They want the processed version that ends up with as much real truth as hot dogs have real beef. Then there's a whole other level that wants to hear what they want to hear, they all want the pretty package with the present they were hoping for all year in it and nothing else will do, truth be damned. These people swallow anything, as long as it sounds like what they wanted to hear "Everything's okay, the check's in the mail, don't worry." Unfortunately, when you've got people like this who either want processed "truth" or "happy times, don't worry you're not going to have to take care of yourself" the media will spoonfeed them crap and they'll eat it up and follow along like good little puppies, which only makes the problems worse when you realize the media is a wholly owned subsidiary of the liberal left. I'd love another Reagan, but I think a Reagan like candidate today would be turned into such a boogeyman by the media that people would be terrified of him. Sad really.

Matt,

If we get Romney he will nominate liberal judges for the federal bench because they'll sail through the confirmation process in the Senate, right?

If we get Santorum the "news" cabal will chew on his heels 24/7 and the democrats in Congress will toss a shoe into the gears of the Executive Branch.

"Our" government went off the rails in the 1860s. As long as the elected politicians have our money we'll never be able to set government right again.

To sum it up, we're screwed.

Daisycutter, no truer words have been spoken in a very long time.
