can anyone tell me how you find out what medals a friend or family member has recieved?

because my brother and i lost a friend over there,and i was wondering what awards he recieved before death,and to look up my wifes grandfathers aswell.

only place i know of would be on a DD214,to get that you would have to go thru the Freedom of information act i believe,unless someone knows a different route.

For such information, but I also think there is only certain people who can request such information.

When I got a copy of my DD214 I ended up having to actually call out there a number of times before they finally got their crap together. That was before 1989, I don't know how long it would take to get anything with all the records in movement now since 9/11.
