unless they personally serve you, there is no way to prove you received the citation...

But

There way around that is this: The "red light cameras" aren't owned by the cities, they're donated to the cities and maintained by the company that makes them. They send the tickets out and charge them as a collection on your credit. They get half, the city gets half, it's all a scam. Oh, and here's something you've probably not thought about, if you get nailed by a red light camera and a cop happened to be there at the time you're going to get TWO TICKETS, no double jeapoardy.

Scam

That's my point exactly. Since they're almost always owned and operated by third party companies, it would be no different then if I formed an "XYZ" LLC and sat by the stop sign in front of my house, then sent out citations to anyone who doesn't make a complete stop... or sat in a lawnchair in my front lawn with a beer and a radar gun. If you receive a citation in the mail and pay the fine, you're admitting guilt.

I don't know about FL, but here they're not allowed to send them to collections until they can prove that you received the citation to begin with and then failed to pay. Simply mailing it to an address where you may or may not reside does not suffice. If you don't send payment with the bill after 30 days, they will send someone to serve you in person. After a few failed attempts they will give up as it's not in their best interest financially to hunt you down for the rest of your life.

Here they no longer have to personally serve civil summons. So you can get arrested for failure to appear for something you never knew about. A lot of companies are deliberately sending things to the wrong address and having people arrested for contempt of court.

traffic light enforcement.
5 years ago I got a parking ticket through the mail. It said I failed to pay the parking meter in a city owned parking lot.
Interesting since the car, wife & I were in Monterey California on the date of violation.
Since I'd not spent any time in Little Rock I knew nothing about who did parking enforcement so I automatically assumed those clowns in Washington State trying to get me to send them money was a scam.
I turned it all over to the State Attorney General Office Of Consumer Protection. Bingo, ticket fixed and I got a nice letter from the State explaining that yes, it was a real, authorized outfit doing parking control but someone screwed up LOL.
Military Retired Plates and Handicapped Plates are numbered identically here but I don't know if they share the very same numbers, if not the ticket writer goofed. If they are the State goofed.

Red light camera

Don't know about Florida but they tried the cameras in Albuquerque, NM for a while. People hated them and tried to get them to take them out . City wouldn't do it until accounting fiqured out they were paying more to lease the cameras then they took in in fines. Got rid of them pretty fast after that

Defer to Reap and others on the issue.. I will say that it was the height of hypocrisy when CA did their AZ boycott.. remember that after we passed 1070 the "immigration"bill.. CA immediately got all spun and boycotted ANYTHING made in AZ.. passed a state senate bill NO dealing with AZ.. ok.. we for forgot the red light cameras made in PHX..

Yep.. they amended the CA bill to allow the red light cameras.. That my friends is how politics, hypocrites, and money grubers work.. Sad huh..

We ought to just all stop doing business with the People's Republic of Kalifornia anyway. Stop travelling through there, too. Turn that whole state into a quarantine, see if we can still contain the special brand of insanity there before it spreads to the real world.

I believe the state did away with the cameras, such as I-10, 101 etc..., but individual cities such as scottsdale, tempe, chandler, mesa, etc. all still have them. I'm not sure about the west side because I'm not out there much but I assume glendale, peoria etc. still have them as well.

Califagnia and shut off the flow of electricity and dispute California's claim to a share of the Colorado River's water.

Put California on their knees again but for a different reason :<)

If I remember correctly, you have the right to face your accuser. Is that right granted in civil cases as well, and if you can invoke that right, do they have to bring in the camera that took the picture? Would you be allowed to question the camera? If no response, could that be considered contempt of court (not complying with cross examination)?

Just curious if the sixth amendment is viable in civil cases...

Supposedly

They have to have a certified LEO reviewing all the camera footage and only he/she can issue the ticket, but from what I've heard good luck getting them to show in court.

They set them deliberately to do that so they can write all the extra tickets. You'll also see a lot of lights now that will skip yellow and go green to red for this same reason.
