Well I just was told a good freind of mine that has been around guns all his life had a mishap with his pistol. So here it goes the way he told me.
Christmas day this year his Dad and him were comparing their pistols same make, model, and caliber. They were done talking about them and my freind pulled his slide into the locked back postion and then left it on the kitchen counter and left the kitchen. His Dad in the mean time picks up a loaded mag puts it in the gun and releases the slide. My buddy returning back to the kitchen picks up his pistol and see's that the firing pin indicator was out and he drops the mag points the gun at the floor and pulls the trigger.Bang the gun goes off and shoots a hole through his floor through the sheet rock down stairs. It then went through his sons favorite stuffed animal and into his sons bed. Thankfully his boy was upstairs and not laying on his bed or this story would not be a easy thing to learn from, but a deadly one. He was sick for hours knowing he could have hurt or killed one of his children with such a stupid unaviodable mistake.
So remember to always check those chambers.

I guess your talking about a XD........If thats the case the loaded chamber indicator should have been a dead givaway that the weapon was hot!

He just took it for granted that the chamber was clear, a mistake I am sure he will never make again.

Lets hope not!

Glad everyone is O.K. I never pull the trigger on a gun in the house till I have cleared and checked it at least twice!

WHY

Why did his dad insert a loaded mag and chamber the weapon
in the first place?

What's the very first thing you do when you pick up or are handed a weapon? point it in a safe direction and visually observe the chamber. Loaded chamber indicators are only relied upon by complete idiots.

But instead of just pointing at the floor and pulling the trigger why the hell didn't he just pull back the slide and check the chamber? Isn't that like gun safety rule number 1?
