I have a 50+ year old ver & can't find a serial number - just the model & patent #. Is it possible that one this old didn't have a s/n?

Thanks guys,

gun serial numbers

firearms made prior to the 1968 Gun Control Act were not required to have a serial number.Manufacturers only did it if they wanted to as it added another step in the manufacturing process. After passage of the GCA all firearms both made domestically and imported were required to have a serial number. So with the age of your rifle it explains it not having a number.

Thanks guys. I guess I can stop looking now! For some reason I thought the s/n requirement began much earlier than '68. Learn something everyday. By the age of 150, I'll be pretty darn smart!
