So twas the night before xmas and i was opening presents, and i opened a small box, it was a "Express Magnum 15 Pellet 00 Buckshot" made by remington, i have a mossberg maverick 88 field shotgun, it can fire 2 3/4 and 3" shells, this shells i got for xmas is 3", but it said you need a magnum shotgun to fire this load? can i not fire it with my mav 88? Sniping your enemy is like hunting any other animal.

"Magnum" rounds are just larger than normal, so if your gun has the 3" chamber, I'm pretty sure you're good. I don't think they make +P shotshells.

I shoot "magnum" loads all of the time but I shoot them out of a Mossberg 835 "Ulti-Mag" 12 ga. I wouldn't risk it until you get a definate answer. You could contact maverick directly

Magnum loads listed are for 3" chambers in all shotguns. they usually have the highest count available of pellets for that load. for home or street they are a little to much. If your action is strong u can shoot them but the recoil is heavy and hard. With the mavrick shotguns stay with the normal loadings, 00 buck standard velociy 3 3/4 dram and or find low recoil buckshot 1145 fps loadings, federal H13200 is very good and easy on the shooter and the gun, remington reduced recoil also has them usually in 8 or 9 count pellet OO buck 1200 fps. Winchester winlite also is available in OO buck too.

and if i fire the magnum rounds on a maverick 88, whats the worse that can happen?

Hey raffycanlas got your email message on the 3" shells. I have fired them in my mossberg's 500. I have tried the winchester 3" 00 buck 15 pellet and they kicked like a mother fucker, and i had a pachamyer grip kit on it and a ported barrel from mag-na-port, and it was a lot of recoil. I blasted a stump out in the swamp with them. Although i was able to control it, it still was a hard kick, to much for self and home defense. You can try it if you like but don't need to shoot them all the time. If your chamber on your shotgun say's 2 3/4" & 3" chamber then go ahead. the 3" shells in either buckshot or slugs where made for big game only, ie... brown bear, grizzley etc. p.s. wear a shoulder pad.

that question, because the answer will most likely be an opinion, based on experience, rather than absolute knowledge. It is hard to understand why you just do not just go to the "horses mouth" and ask that question.
Why not email service@mossberg.com Ask them the question, and feel secure that you have an answer based upon knowledge of the design tolerances of your firearm.

but experimentation with something that may cause death orserious bodily harm if fun. Especially when it's someone else doing the testing.

just called them and said it'll be fine, i also called the place i bought it from, ableammos.com and i also called remington aboutit, they all said the same things, like scudrunner from here said, theres nothing wrong with ignorance, its just lack of knowledge, and i appreciate the help but the uncalled for comments about experimentation leading to death by other people is a bit immature and stupid, i didnt know gunslot.com allowed retards making dumb remarks like that here, but its all good, and i appreciate the feedback.

glad you got the straight scoop.
Please do not take sarcasm here as more than good natured ribbing. Most of our high volume posters seem to enjoy that kind of banter, without taking offense. I sometimes have to punish the worst offenders, by sending them to the closet for some period of time so they will do some thinking about their misdeeds, but as you might guess, they remain unrepentant.
Its a tough job being the oldest, crustiest fart..er I mean Dude, on the site.

I was joking, sorry if it offended you, but I'm not the one who took four days and several posts to decide to call someone about it.
raffycanlas
its cool dude, its just that you cant joke about everything ya know? i mean its cool to joke about a walmart employee choking on a banana but it aint cool to make terrorist jokes in an airplane, and i didnt call for four days because i thought i would have more information here, but like i said, you live and learn.

what is a "short bus"? Is that a bus for short people, or one that has a short wheel base, or maybe one that runs only short routes??
Schuyler
has a short wheel base and is used for children with special needs who get picked up directly at their abode. Don't know what grease meant exactly, though so don't want to assume...

I am glad it didn't degenerate into a pissing contest, as I have difficulty trying to be "the bigger person" and ending arguments civily. This is a problem I have online as well as in real life. I suck. However, I must disagree with the conditions of humor. I find humor in everything. I don't think there is anything off limits, and nothing is sacred. I would never want to see someone experiment with a gun when the conditions are not safe, but the idea of it conjures a mental image of the cartoons where the gun goes off and the person has a soot-covered face and big eyes. I know this is not the way it works, but the idea is funny to me. Anybody who has ever had to use "gallows humor" to deal with something will know exactly what I'm talking about. It took some very bad incidents for me to learn a very valuable lesson: If you don't laugh about it, you'll cry about it.

That was the double entendre of my New Years Resolution posting re lit firecracker in the rear end. It was at once tragic but, alas, very funny.
