I started to respond on Jays, and honestly didn't want to cause any sort of "drift".. fist off Jay, no way that anyone's going to get tired of any build comments.. Fun stuff.. even if we don't learn from it, i think everyone enjoys being part of a build.
Starting this thread to keep Jays clean and to keep a record of a cheap WWII battle rifle to "sportier" build.. The Enfield started life as a basic MK IV.. This was one of brothers, i remember taking it out shortly after he bought it.. Didn't remember till it was under my roof that it had been sporterized.. The front furniture is missing, as is the original front sight, and bayo lug.. What i have is beautiful blond wood.. I've read that some of the Brit battle rifles had furniture that rivaled anything available in the civilian market, and mine sure does.. I think there was some re bluing done at the time the stock and sites were altered as it's also top notch bluing, that was NOT in keeping with the wood finish.. Anyway no issues of keeping this original so it's going to be a scoped long ranger.. The furniture is blond, steel bluing is "black" so great contrast (might not shoot, but sure will be purty!)
what i have..
black web sling, and sling swivels..
what i need..
scope and mounts, bipod..
Gona have to get the receiver taped for mounts.. This is going to be done on the cheap, and thinking about low dollar scope .. Talking REAL low dollar here.. but do want to see if i can put together a one "k"lick Rifle.. No heroics.. Just a nice long range piece that i know (if i can do it at 6 tenths) can group at half a mile..
