I posted a long response to Dave's update about the little guy, and why God let that sort of thing happen.. Screwed up and closed off before it posted.. Laughing as In retrospect that might be just another proof of our Lords existence..

The whole subject of bad things happening to innocents is something we all wrestle with, it doesn't seem right.. DUH .. because it isn't..

I just said the same little prayer i always do, that i can be a conduit of some good in what i write.. Here goes.. it's all about free will.. its our most wonderful, and at the same time horrible gift from the creator..

Imagine if you will a world that was perfect.. where kids didn't get ill perhaps.. If that was the case there would be NO debate about the existence of God.. The same thing applies to all things evil.. If they didn't exist..then we would have no questions about our Lords existence..

The same free will that allows us to have what ever moral compass we chose.. also allows us to either believe or not believe.. That's the core issue.. faith or not..

For years i felt that those who believe did so out of either fear or reward.. It personally took years of pretty intense personal debate on this, and yep reading the bible cover to cover (parts of the old T or NOT an easy read) to except this..

Fact is i still have a lot of questions, but i KNOW that its not about fear or reward.. It's about Love and Forgiveness.. and we have the freewill to chose.. Most divinity scholars believe (and i except) that we could have been "hard wired" to belief.. pretty easy.. that whole perfect world thing..So when we CHOSE to believe.. it matters.. its faith.. were saved..

I want to be real careful not to proselytize, and that comment about "not actually gathering to pray" made me question why i didn't post a prayer.. guess after just coming back i didn't want to jump in to fast and turn anyone off.. and your sure right about the amount of prayers the little guy received.. So.. Lets try this as the resident chaplain..

Lord... with all we our we thank you for the gift of faith you give us thru free will.. we ask that you forgive us for the sins that free will leads to, and to strengthen our belief it allows us..

Our good friend Dave Marlow's nephew is sick.. Lord we all ask that you hold him in your loving arms, and heal him, guide us to understand why these things happen to the innocent, and protect them from it..

Lord .. also forgive Dave for that whole eating people thing.. were pretty sure he's kidding..
and if you could fix his truck it would be appreciated by all of us..

Lord.. we love this life you gave us.. thank you.. please seriously forgive and guide us.. amen..

a man has to hold his word, hold his beliefs, and hold a good sight picture.

Greg, you may be a crusty old fuck, but you're a funny crusty old fuck.

Greg

I think the fact that you, as I do, take bad things happening to good people personally is a side effect of our job. We're the protectors after all, and every time something happens to an innocent person we feel like in some way it was a failure on our part. At least for me ego kicks in, I suppose. Guess it never wears off, huh?
