S&W M&P.40

Ive gotten opinions on Glocks, Rugers, Sigs, Springfield XDs, and 1911 pistols. So what about Smith and Wesson's M&P .40, is it any good? Also, what about Walther's PPS/K?

great

The whole S&W M&P series are excellent weapons. I am going to get a M&P .40 when I get home. These are excellent weapons made to the highest quality of Law Enforcement and better yet, they pass my test!!

M&P

they're nicely built. my only experience is with the .40. they are comparable to glocks and xd's.... so if I were you, I would rent all three and shoot them back to back and see what fells best to you and which one you shoot the tightest groups with. (you won't be able to swap the barrel out like the glocks that we've discussed on other threads)
As for the walther, I not a fan. just my opinion. for the price, i start comparing them to sigs, and they don't even come close in my book.

M&P and XD

Also, The grips are another thing to consider. Some or more angled then others. I held many pistols and closed my eyes, held up the pistol to dry fire and open my eyes. The M&P was right on and fit my hand perfectly, no dicomfort to unload or any function of the weapon...the XD was steller too.

Pistols

Ok, I went to a gunshop today and held a Glock 22, Ruger SR9, Sig P250, Springfield XD, S&W M&P .40, an a Walther PPS. I hate to say this, but sorry Glock fans, The G22 was my least favorite of these. The SR9 and the Walther PPS were to slim for my hands. And the S&W M&P .40 was just okay.

Overall, the XD and the SIG were my 2 favorites, though I would have to say I liked the XD better. The XD felt more balanced and I didnt care too much for the Sig's trigger.

I didnt get to look at any Beretta pistols. Anyone have any opinions on Beretta? What about 1911 style pistols???

beretta

from what I can find... it looks like the 98 is chambered in 9x21mm IMI, it was manufactured for civilian markets where its illegal to own weapons chambered in a military catridge such as 9x19mm. I also read that they came out with a 98F in the early days that was chambered in .30 Luger.
As far as I know the only current production civilian beretta in .45acp is the PX4.

i have never been a beretta handgun fan, just preference... I like their shotguns though. I think ebear bought the stoeger cougar and likes it.

Yeah

I think I want a more "tactical" feeling handgun such as the XD. But if I was going to buy an Over-and-Under shotgun, Beretta would be a likely choice.

It really comes down to how they feel. Thats always been my biggest factor.
Decide what kind you want, figure out which fit the criteria and then test them...I'm just rambeling aren't I?

Andrew350 - I am struggling just like you - I am wanting a .45 striker fired pistol and have come down to the Glock and XD. I still need to fire both of them before deciding, but there is something about the XD that intrigues me. I think it all comes down to the test fire? Does any one know why some of the XD guns have a slide safety and others do not? Was at teh gun shop and noticed some had one but most did not?
