Some explaining.

(maybe)
In TX we have a rainy day fund in the govt. coffers. The current budget hearings and negotiations are centering around tapping some of those funds.

badgirl. While I do agre with your statement, fiscal responsibility is what created the fund.
Responsible action? Hah! yer talking about government.

Every damn time the taxes get raised or some type of gambling gets legalized, all I hear is "it's for education". Now all I hear is "the schools are broke". Something is broke alright, the education system. Don't get me wrong, classroom teachers are worth every penny but when a librarian makes more than a tenured teacher something aint right. It's the admin and big business end of it that's broke.
Quit running all over the state playing footsies with the other principals and coaches and start teaching! Shop class is money better spent than 8 busses of kids and admin going to 1 football game.
OK. I'll shut up now.

I Thank you that you agree. Yes the taxes do go up. But ask yourself, this when The taxes go up don't the roads get fix. and yes it is Part of the Admin, and some of the Business. not all of them. But That is why we have to stand up on say something, write our call and change this it is not going to go away by it's self.

They pull that crap here in florida all the time, then they just confessed that they have been letting cable co. and cell phones co. put towers on the playgrounds and get in the neighborhood of 250,000.00 to 350,000.00, and that helps with school budget ? Then a group says and pickets that the towers cause cancer in kids, but when asked who is going to pay for the drop if no more leasing towers ? Then my taxes just went up 1,250.00 homeowners ins. too and I call tax office and they say your house and property value fell an average of all, 10,000.00 this year. So I say why did my taxes go up then, He says because it costs more to run the schools and playgrounds, I say we just made a circle and started out with the schools and some on the sly have leased a piece of school property to cell and cable towers to off set the taxes going up? He says let me give you to somebody else and they made the same circle ? I hung up. ! DUHHHHH-- I will stick to cartoons before I ever talk to them again. Then in todays paper we passed a no begging or panhandling law, and 75% of men panhandlers wear old fatigues and even though they are 35 years old say they are Vietnam Veterans, forgotten and the soup kitchen is serving soup w/unregulated water. Who gives a shit, I know lets get Bush Back and have him take a few more pictures this time as a Marine or navy seal. Then he can write off his baseball team and pretend to chop some more wood in Texas, where he moved from that ranch after his term as president, his last thank-God. His paybacks for his daddys war cost to many real soldiers lives and limbs. Jesus I have to stop. I am sorry, but he pisses me off and all Bureacrats. My appoligizes to Badgirl. Bad Girl

I am very glad to meet you and talk to you and share my feelings with you and all the guys on this site, It has helped me more in 6 months than I have been for thirty nine years. That is a fact. I think that is why I seem to ramble on, because I never have talked about it so much. But it seems the more I share now, the better I can deal with the dissapointing remarks all over the place. I know you are a nice and good woman and lady, and I respect all ladies , especially of your Caliber. So thankyou for giving me the right to express myself whether you agree or not, it is worth it to me. Can I be your friend ? JOHN

I have noticed that when taxes across the board, corporate, individual, etc., are lowered, more people are employed, thus creating a larger tax base. When taxes rise, more people find themselves on the unemployment rolls as businesses tighten their belts and protect what profits they can. If the government were to outlaw state income taxes, lower the maximum (federal) income tax rate to somewhere around 27% - 30% and create incentives for businesses to grow rather than take their manufacturing processes overseas in search of cheaper labor, then we could make some progress.

I don't know about other states, but in Texas, the "Lottery (legalized gambling et. al) is for education" idea is a croc of S***! The money goes into the General Fund, not a special fund for education. I was all for the Lottery in the beginning, as it was supposed to go into a "special fund" set up for education in order to reduce and possibly eventually eliminate "Robin Hood" fund sharing from school districts. When the "powers that be" saw the huge winfall with all the money going into the general fund they failed to ever create that special fund account.

As for the "rainy day fund" I'm sorry Vaq, I pray that I'm wrong, but I will believe that it really exists when I see the balance sheet on it. I want to know that it really exists, and that there are REAL dollars in it. Until the state's budget office releases the information, I just can't believe it's there. Like you said, Responsible action? we're talking about government here!" I fear that the "rainy day fund" here in Texas is much like the social security trust fund in D. C. I don't think it really exists, and never did. I hope I'm wrong and if you can provide me a link to something that is believable please do.

that is exactly how they got that crap through here in Florida. The Lottery would be match with State monies. Bull crap, it all went into a slush fund like everything else and they draw down on it as they like.

Not only that, State monies were cut because all Federal monies were pulled.

That is one of the reasons they want to do away with the Sunshine law requiring all Florida governmental processes be in the open and Public record.

If anyone ran a Public or Private Corporation like the States and National Governments ran they would all be in Prison...
