I'm looking to buy a mid-priced scope for an AR for my son. Any suggestions?

How far will he be shooting, less than 100 yards, then a holographic sight may be the best choice.

How far/what will he be shooting? (Red dot or something with magnification?) Can you define "mid-priced"? There are tons of choices but this will help narrow them down a bit.
