My wife keeps bugging me about what I want for x-mas I think I 'm gonna tell her a shotgun she'll probably say no but on the off chance she says yes I want to be able to tell her exactly which one I want. This one from big 5 has caught my eye mostly 'cause it's black and holds 8 shots any suggestions are appreciated the budget is $500. (edit) forgot the link to the big 5 shotgun, here ya go http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.com/big5/Default.aspx?action=detail&s... Nothing is as risky as certain failure. |

kind of mag problem (after market I think) but I talked to nitris about it and if you have a machine shop, there is some way around it...lol

you can't go wrong with an 870 as your first or only shotty, escpecially at that price with an 8 rd capacity, lot's of upgrade parts available as well,in case you get the itch to modify it.Fuck that Russian crap Saiga

Take a look at the slide rods that work the action.. the 870 has two.. some of the others only have one rod.. Plus easy and cheap to accessorize, folding stock, lights, mircowave ovens, all the after market stuff..

how a I roll, it will accommodate most any of the shit that you care to hang off of it , and it's a good shooter...

putting five rounds of 00 Buck downrange in .73 seconds (My best recorded time) turns you on, but for reliability, you can't go wrong with a Remington 870 or Mossberg 590. I know some people will talk shit about the Mossy, but I can pretty confidently say I've fired more 2 3/4" and 3" 00 buck and slugs than most and can say as long as you do your job as the shooter and don't short shuck it (See my three-gun stage video for an example of what happens when you short shuck and cause a double feed with 3" mags), either one will be fine.

Thanks guys, I'm still trying to decide but am leaning towards the 870 remington, I need to go look at the one big 5 is advertising w/8 shot capacity, coundn't find one with 8 shots on remington website best they had there was 7.
Reaper308
I got my 870 desert tac recon for just over $500. it holds 7 plus 4 in the stock, and i have a side saddle 6 for a total of 17. great shottie

Remington has disappointedly marketed less-than-stellar shotguns for many years now. Their best product IMHO is the Police Magnum or original Wingmaster....they will run more than the linked gun, and more than a Mossberg, but I think the $$ is worth is for a working gun.
Likewise, Mossberg's more affordable Maverick shotguns are disappointing. Have had 4 come thru my room here at work, and they do not compare to the original 590A1 or even the standard 500.
With $500, I'd buy a 18.5" Mossberg 590A1 (what I issue here) or an 18.5" Remington Police Magnum....and as many shells as I could get with the leftover cheese. Plus some Advil if I decided to get all run762 and shoot 3" Mag stuff (police low-recoil buck works just fine for me, but I'm a wuss when it comes to recoil....my classes are 200-350rds a day for shotgun and it's a blessing to run that stuff vs. 3"!).
I like the Saiga but have not found a reason to buy one (yet!).

Aww, that's sweet. With that pretty little shout out, I should change my name to GTMOLUCKYGUY I guess. I bet you don't look near as nice as your better half in lingerie and guns, though. So I shall have to refrain from publishing the pictures I have of you.
For now.

I'v e got one, upgraded follower and springs, extractor, that's about what the difference is from a LE 870,except for the barrel with sights,so an 870 express with minor mods still under 400 bucks and reliability is awesome,ALTHOUGH,i really like the desert tactical 870,damn you Reaper! I f'd up and put a cheap mag extension on,which i took off and got a Wilson 2 rd extension, other than that,i would not feel outgunned at 250-300 rds a day. That would be great fun.I do want to shorten my stock a couple inchs though for LOP.
