Sig or Glock

Recently I traded my Sig P229 for a Glock 30SF. I was looking for a smaller CCW that packed some power!! Thoughts on if this was a good move???

I carry a glock 30 everyday. I am happy with the weapon. I hope samD was sitting when he reads this!!!! 10 round highly concealable .45 is a good thing.

ebear: it aint so!!!!!

there I said it.

samD, there was no other manufacturer that had an out of the box 10 round pistol. I use what works best for the situation. I do not care if it says glock, kimber, chevy, dodge, dell, nokia, etc. When one props up a single manufacturer over all others based on marketing, that person is nothing more than a follower. Thinking becomes second to loyalty for no other reason than a feeling of fraternity.

because it holds 10 and works everytime. No fumbling for a safety. I own one Glock the G19. I figured you need the best, at least for me, when you only carry one pistol at a time. The Glock is the best for what it was designed for, which is concealed carry and reliability. I love the 1911, just not to carry. I also want another 9mm beretta and a sig and an H&k and a Kimber, I want it all. Sorry if I preach to highly on the Glock, yes they are ugly, but I will shoot faster than some sidewinder looking for the safety!

shooting fast

samD,
I agree that the glock has a mechanism to allow fast firing, however there is a trade off, that first trigger pull is alot stiffer on my 30 than on my HKUSP45. I am a believer that everytime you pull the trigger, that round should be on target, if you have to adjust your trigger pull to allow for that first shot, there is a moment of thinking you must train for. Similiarly, using your thumb to remove the safety on other weapons requires training. Is the glock faster, maybe, maybe not. It depends on the shooter. All the main manufacterers have plusses and minuses to their product. If there was a superior weapon, there would be a monopoly by that manufacturer.

clint

p.s. As long as I adhere to the caveats presented by Glock Manufacturing, it is true, my 30 works everytime. As soon as I introduce lead, or a bullet not round nose shaped, the reliability reduces. So to make a blanket statement that the glock works everytime is a bit misleading.

Size wise, I prefer the Glock19. Lighter and more rounds. 15 vs 6. I like those odds and when you are a shitty shot like me, you need the 15. I cant wait for someone to design a pocket 12 ga for 00 buck, multi rounds.

I can see the desire to have 3 times as
many rds since the "Air Weight" Smith
only carries 5 shots. BUT, the Smith is
a very light weight and small overall
gun. Since almost all gunfights in
civilian life is under 15 feet and
under 6 rds, carrying extra has the
benefit of comforting the owner. That's
about it.
I've never been in a gunfight and only
had one opportunity to legally shoot
a person so I don't want anyone to think
I know what I'm talking about but, I am a
shooter who takes serious sending lead
downrange and like I preach to local cops,
THINK! before launch, it only takes a
fraction of a second to identify target
and get the front sight on center mass.

Taurus

I had a PT99 9mm. I shot it until it broke (about 50,000). Taurus replaced the barrel at no cost to me. Customer service was great, I can not speak about them now, but my experience tells me that Taurus is a good pistol.

I get tired of the glock community praising the technical excellence of the glock. It might be a marvel of engineering, but it is NOT the be all end all weapon. It works great, not one can dispute that, but so do all the other major manufacturers. It is the person that is deploying the weapon that counts. ebear trusts his Taurus, samD trusts his glock.

just my opinion... but that was a bad move. Don't get me wrong, I love Glocks. My G23 is my carry and I have a G21SF in my truck right now... but LOVE sigs. Glocks are my bic lighters, sigs are my zippos. Sam, I know you have brand loyalty to Glock, but sigs fire EVERY time as well, and no fumbling with a saftey. with the P229, you can choose SA or DA... where as the G30 is DA only. Sig has put their guns through the same "torture tests" that glock has and has proven to be very reliable (which is why they got contracts with the seals, FBI etc.)
AntNTx, all in all, if you got what you wanted out of the deal, it was a good move. But economically, you just traded a $850+ gun (which is worth every penny) for a $500 gun. If you wanted you could pick up a used G30 for $300 that would be just as reliable as the NIB G30.

Now first of all, what

Now first of all, what caliber was the Sig P-229??? We are not mind readers ok. Now I own and shoot both a GLOCK & SIG pistols. I favor the GLOCK for a CCW weapon as there are NO safety's to sweep off and the very first pull of the trigger is going to feel the same for all rounds in the magazine. The SIG pistols, have the dreaded First SHOT that has a 10-lb trigger pull to fire the weapon and the other shots are at around 6-lbs. This causes many shooters to pull down with the pistol missing their mark on target.

One cannot afford to keep the Bad Guy the benefit of a lousy first shot if a confrontation came about, you may end up in the cemetary because of such an issue of off target shot fired.

There are NO de-cocking levers to have to think about either on your GLOCK!!! All you need to do is draw and fire that weapon, should there be a threat to your or yours of course.

I have timed myself with the Sig, Kimber, and Glock. My time firing on target was faster with the GLOCK 29 (a 10mm calbier) and my Sig P-229 is a 40 caliber, nice pistol but not for my CCW pistol. The GLOCK is an UGLY SOB BUT is the most reliable pistol out there in my humble opinion for a CCW weapon.

Now lets just remember that NO PISTOL company in the industry has subjected their pistols to the tests that the GLOCK CO. has done. YOU think about that for a minute and then tell me who can match the GLOCK TEST of 250,000 rounds out of a Glock pistol with NO FRIGGING HANG UP OR JAMS gentlemen and ladies!!! I rest my case.

I can purchase any 10 pistols in the world today but I choose a GLOCK as my GO TO GUN as a CCW weapon to defend myself and family against the BAD GUYS. I Own COLTS, Smith & Wesson, Kimber, Springfield, Sig Sauer, HK and GLOCK pistols. My carry gun is a GLOCK 29 & Glock 20 with a KEL-TEC PF-9 as a ankel gun.

Thank a VET for your Freedom Americans!

Hi Ball

I can not dispute your experiences with glocks. Nor can you dispute my experiences with glocks. Everyone has a favored weapon. Do not believe the hype that glocks are a perfect weapon. Again, I carry one everyday becasue it is a tool that meets my needs; however, please read this report: http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/hhnj.html

I understand the report is a couple of years old, and I am sure a quality company like glock has addressed the issue. All weapons have gone through some sort of trial and error in the field, because as you and I both know, the lab is a controlled environment. You and I deal with dynamic situations where lab tests might fail.

Hi Ball

according to sig (and other online sources)the P229 was put through a 3 million round torture test...

"The P229® DAK™ is the standard pistol of the Dept. of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard who selected the P229 after a 3 million round grueling torture test. A favorite among law enforcement professionals, the P229 offers compact size, choice in firepower of 9mm, .357 SIG or .40 S&W, tactical versatility of an accessory rail, double-action only and the unbeatable performance that only comes from SIG SAUER® all in one package. Developed by the renowned engineers at Sauer for the SIG SAUER pistols, the new DAK trigger system delivers a safe, reliable and consistent 6.5 pound double-action only trigger pull. The DAK also features double-strike capability. SIG SAUER DAK pistols also disassemble without the need to pull the trigger - simply lock the slide back and remove the magazine to disassemble like other SIG pistols. The DAK is also available in the P220®, P226® and P239® models."

http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?category...

I realize the quote was for the DAK model. Like I said, I know Glock is proven and will always fire when the trigger is pulled. I trust my life on it. But many people have the misconception that no other gun has the longevity or reliability of a Glock. I know sig does.

Either way, the question was whether it was a good trade, not which pistol will withstand deep salt water submersions and airplane drops. I stand by my answer.

One hell of a gun.
I'm sure your Glock is a fine
weapon and suits you to a "T".
When you get down to basics
there will never be a gun to
please everyone. I, for one,
do not like the "modern"
incarnation of semi-auto
handguns. It seems though that
gun magazine writers have taken
some of the guns to a level
formerly reserved for the
golden calf and other artifacts
worshiped. My S&W .38spl. will
perform in a close-in duel just as well as
any firearm and it was affordable.

Plus if your law enforcement, military, i believe ex-mil, and several outher catagories, Sig will give you a 100 dollar rebate for purchasing one of their firearms as a way of saying thanks. It's posted on their site, and I saw a flyer on it at the local PX.

Home defense rounds

My home defense rounds are the same as my carry rounds, Speer Gold Dot HP +P. Spend a bit of money, buy a box each of a few different defense loads and see which one your gun likes the best. Hitting what you want to hit is more important than whether the round explodes or opens up into a sharp little flower thingy. I love the effect the Extreme Shock AFR frangible round has on target, but it's not as accurate in any of my Glocks as the Speer. Experiment on your own.

I like Corbon DPX, Federal HST, or Winchester Ranger SXT because they talon. For regular JHP's I prefer Corbon or Hornady TAP.

The handgun just lets me make 'em duck while I grab the long gun from the bathroom.

OK Sammy

If you're serious, I'll lay off ya. If not, F you! I don't take anything on this site too serious or personal. I definitely don't think I'm superior to anyone, except maybe snake... and ebear, clitbo, and runaway. They're just losers. I just thought I had too call you out as I would anyone else. Keep on keepin on... and i'm on to your secret agenda to use the site to meet S&M chicks

P220 carry

is almost indentical in size to the P229. it depends on which model though. I have 2 P229's. One is the equinox, which is wider because of the wood grips, but not by much

Sounds good! It's the answer I was looking for... I'm juggling guns here, I think I'm going back to Sigs. I recently shot my G30, just didn't feel rite compared to the Sig I used to have...

Handgun reliability

Handgun torture tests are fucking stupid. How many here really think they're going to fire that many rounds without cleaning or lubrication, or how many are really going to be dumb enough to drop their gun in a cement mixer filled with gravel? "Oh darn, I accidentally buried my gun in the mud for two weeks and then I lost it in a freezer for another two weeks. Better dunk it in salt water for two weeks to wash it off". I've had two Taurus pistols and both were excellent guns. I bought the Taurus PT92 well used and I put about 15,000 rounds through it and the only two malfunctions I had was when I fired simunitions rounds through it without the adapter. There are certain guns that I would absolutley recommend against, those being the Hi-Point due to the poor quality control of that company (some guns are great, while others of the same model are jamamatics), and the gangbanger specials like the Lorcin, Jennings, Davis, and Ravens. I prefer Glocks due to their simplicity of operation and lack of extra switches, levers, buttons, and dials. They go bang when I pull the trigger and only when I pull the trigger. Slightly off subject, many of you may not know this, but Reaper308 is the national Wham! fan club president. Fag.

That's 3 1/2 minutes I'll never get back. That was a dumb video. ALL RIGHT, I'LL ADMIT IT!! I WAS GROOVIN'!!!! I think I might have turned a bit fruity. I was actually trying to see why you'd like the trumpet player more than the bass player. Must like them redbones, huh? What is DHSS?

Glock sights

The best sights I've ever used for the Glock are the Heinie slant pro straight eights. Trijicon makes the tritum inserts for almost all the major night sight manufacturers, so it's a matter of style you prefer. the straight eight system uses two tritium inserts, one front and one rear that you stack on top of each other rather than trying to line up three dots horizontally. Another good set are Sevigny carry/competition sights you can get through Dawson Precision.

I love 'em

I usually work mids or swing shift, so it's dark either when going to or from work and I stop at the range about once every other week for night-fire training and those things are just so much faster than the three dot Trijicons I have on my G26.
