We are going to be doing some site changes and improvements during the next couple weeks. If you experience any issues just post it here and we will work on fixing it. Also, go ahead and post anything you'd like to have changed or added and we'll try to get that integrated in as well.

Thanks!
Quinton

Quinton I just want to thank you for letting us know and asking what we would like to see changed, I for one appreciate that you came to the membership for opinions instead of just making wholesale changes!

First off.. We all love the site.. and a sincere Thanks from all of us should start any suggestion.

agree with Reaps thought.. but it only takes a sec to light up the avatar and see what is in the inbox, so not that big a deal to me at least...

Someone.. might have been Reap had a great idea awhile back.. the comments only show 10, so when the sites busy these can change pretty fast.. This puts comments that are not that old out of view..

Anyway to have a second main page.. maybe call it old comments and posts.. that would have number 11 comment and post on back.. That would allow someone to come on and know they hadn't missed anything.. I could see three rows of both across it.. AND allow extra space for advertising..

We all want that ..Hope you and M, both know that we WANT you guys to make money, and keep this site going.. This works both ways.. let us know what you guys need from us to make sure this site continues to do well..

One final note.. All of us are very happy with Sam as president.. Sure hoping that does not change..

I'd like to

see a 50 post minimum before a member can advertise a website, might keep these spammers away if you could somehow prevent them from adding a URL or whatever kind of voodoo you do.

next I'd like to see animation being able to be added to our avatars, don't remember what that's called or how to do it myself but I'm willing to learn.I have seen some cool stuff on other sites.

and a long sleeve pocket tshirt in camo,XL,with GUNSLOT on it would be cool too, hell i might even pay for that.

I hate to be an ass

I'd like to see the members give an honest effort to try to stay somewhat on topic... I know we're not going to stay 100% on topic 100% of the time (I'm guilty), but some of the more recent posts in the past few months are pretty bad. I'm looking through a few old threads and there's two pages on how people are feeling, what they're eating for dinner, what the weather is like etc... Off topic a little bit, OK... lengthy chit chat discussions can get pretty annoying for people looking for info (I know this post is off topic.... smartass)

The reason I bring it up, because some other sites have a "Chat box" or "shout box" on the side of the screen where members can chat it up all they want, but the comments are never saved and stored. They update real time so no refresh necessary. An example is the "shout Box" on the right of the screen here....

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm

I don't know how much work it is to write something like that, but it would be useful here and save on server space while cleaning up the site and making it more user friendly... Just a suggestion.

I can tell you that for a lot of the regulars.. and im guessing over 50%.. but would be interested in the actual demographics here.. The back and forth is what makes the site..

That being said your absolutly correct, and with out question i know im an offender here with a capital O.. so perhaps the middle ground.. If its a serious (or even half serious) thread.. The AR build as an eg. or anything thats obvious.. Then we make (or try) to keep that off limits for chit chat.. Or...how bout if when someone puts up a post that THEY do not want "chatter" on then maybe flag it somehow.. What would be wrong with a simple "serious" in post title..

Thoughts guys.. the only thing i know for sure is that if we become the dry ass tech site that others are we lose what makes this place great to a lot of us.. I just finnished reading the comments from Ebear and others that i think bring others (for sure me) back here...

so...

you guys don't like the "shout box"? I thought that would solve the problem and was a pretty cool function.... maybe if there was a way to scroll through past shouts (maybe 50 or 100) then people could get caught up on discussions that went on when they wern't here. I do like death rays though...

If I understand reaper correctly, the shout box would be good, Am I right in assuming that you could be chatting in shout box & still be keeping an eye on &/or posting to a dedicated thread you are interested in???? How about it Reaper??

Maybe not LBC, as

greg mentioned it is fun to come back after a weekend (in my case) and catch up on the banter, with a 'shout box' that all goes away after 50-100 posts so by Monday it's all gone.

Post's

I am as guilty as anyone, maby more so, for that I apologize to all because Yes, it get's on my nerves also. I am with ya Greg, on there needs to be something. I just don't know what.
I am also NOT for the dry "Techno site" like some others are. Most of us on here are friends, with real cares & concerns about each other, that's what makes this place super, & that's what I want to keep. I also would like to see some sort of advanced member screening, there have been a lot of real winners here as of late. Thank's for a great site, let's keep it, how about it guy's?

Lets keep it simple Kids! I still don't have a lot of computer skills. Agreed with what has been suggested allready. I for one, am bad about keeping on the subject. Reap, it's hard for a man to stay on topic, when you talk guns, yer gonna talk about hunt'n ,that leads to food, which leads to women, then BEER!!! It goes in a circle!!! Kinda like where I work. Gambling leads to alcohol which leads to tabacco, which leads to women(Ho's) then drugs!! See I can't keep on the subject!!! I'm Scerwed!!
Reaper. Thanks for the gif. file, I'll look into it. That stuff is new to me!!
Would like to have a GunsLot TeeShirt also. See now i'm into shirts.
ebear, I seen you checking traderjac, for a hernia. And he asked me "If ebear was check'n me for a hernia, why was both his hands on my shoulders"??????? HUUMMMMMMMM

Good one skipper... ok lets talk for real... The chat box thing Reap is talking about would not be saved.. and to me half of the fun on this site is looking at past posts and reading the comments.. Thats the reason .. the main number one first and foremost...you get it, Guys if we change and don't have those great comments then we lose it all.. that to me is so basic its not even on the table.. am i alone in this..

THE SHOUT BOX!

Well, the shout box sounds like a good idea. I kinda feel similar to Greg on that most of the fun on here is seeing somebodies screwy comment (me included big time) and how the thread just got hijacked from the glorious new breakthrough in some scientific new telescopic dewhicky for an AR or the glorious endeavour in how to tighten up those shooting goups into whether or not ebear cuddles with the llamas afterwards. Yes, I can see how that is annoying if you are wanting answers, but hell, it's alot of fun. I love guns, I love shooting, you guys know that, and I like to talk guns, but that's not what makes me sign on every day. I like gun talk with a little flavor put in and laughing is a great gift and sometimes this site is the only thing that makes me laugh all day. And that's therapeutic to me. So, if a shout box will help even the playing field, then I'm OK with that.

I don't really see we need a lot of changes. Just for the record, I don't mind the ads at all, either, especially of that helps pay for the site. A PM flashie thingie might be nice, but I get an email every time there is a PM anyway, so I am notified. Yeah, things go off-topic. That's the "Squirrel!" factor, but I really don't mind that either.

Quinton, thanks for the work you do. I have been there to a small degree, what you have already done is appreciated.
Guys, there are no more multi page threads. I just left Runaways beer thread, that's a long one pager now.

First off,

Snake learned a couple 'lessons in life' 1: if you are a liar and people find out, you will always be treated as such and 2: there is a 'chain of command' in life and you damn well better follow it. And second, Honestly I am glad that the site only retains a modest number of regulars, the ones that fly by night are probably not worth having anyway, the numbers at the bottom of the page are 'impressive' enough for selling AD space to keep this funded but as a practical matter, they don't represent our little 'club'......and that is a good thing!

Schuyler, we do have

a number of 'lurkers' that add to that number, I see them all day every day (during the week), just something to be considered when figuring numbers.

I see at the bottom that we have "11 members and 689 guests" right now. That number of guests has got to be bogus. Maybe Quinton can clear this up. My guess is this may be the number of people on the servers, but not just on gunslot? Either that or the number has no basis in reality at all. Surely there are not 600+ members of BATF, NSA, and the alphabet agencies all wanting to lurk on our scintillating conversations all at once?

First, to Quinton and Marvin: you guys do a great job, and I really appreciate you. I trust your judgment about any changes/modifications you want to make.

I have mixed emotions about Reaper's suggestion. Sometimes I get irritated at the comments inserted into posts; the comments that have nothing whatsoever to do with the subject of the post. However, this is NOT my private site, so I keep quiet about it. Other people have just as much right to make comments as I do, and if I don't want to read them, I can skip over them.

I too wonder about all the people listed as actively on the site, or who have been in the last period of time. Sometimes I click on their names only to see that they have zero points, and no profile info whatsoever. If they're just investigating the site to see if they want to join, that's fine, but if they're just skimmers, then to hell with them. Is that too harsh?

I agree with Sam that more info needs to be required from people who are joining the site.

I don't mind the ads. If they're needed to financially support the site, then by all means let's have them.

Lets drop the number of users discussion.... that’s how we get ad space sold, ok? Most of you can call a spade a spade.

As for more info needed to join the site... I disagree, especially if it’s displayed publicly. I've never posted my real name, age, facial picture, address etc. in a public forum (lots of you guys know that stuff, but that’s through PM's and private emails). I'm probably going to take down some of the gun pictures that I have publicly posted as well. There is a reason I don't post all that stuff. I think this site caters to a demographic of users who may not want to reveal that info for work/safety/personal reasons. I know some of you guys have no problem telling us where you live, when you go on vacation, and where the spare key is hidden... but not me.

No other forum that I've been to requires much personal info to join. Even if more personal questions are asked in the registration process, there is no way to verify that the correct info is given (with the exception of a working email address, but someone could just set one up for this site) and we would still get the internet special forces task force keyboard rangers and mouse snipers joining. We just need to sift through the BS'ers ourselves.

Agree with everything said.. Obviously don't practice same, and have never told anyone that the spare key is under that second planter shown on the porch picture..(second from L)

Think i put up the gps out to 6 numbers once which is like in the center of the front porch..

While i've put to much info online, i recently did delete the one family pic.. and i have been careful about not giving out family names other than wifes. So honestly not that worried..

Assorted stashed guns help mitigate what worry i might have anyway..

I think were all on the same wave length here guys, and our own bs meter is the best tool we have..

set up an email like [email protected] (something like that) and just forward it to your personal email, that way you wouldn't have to monitor an extra addy.

I'm confused about the whole airport number 2 as well, someone told me salt lake international airport was mun airport 1 before it became international. I live close enough to #2 that the house shakes when the big transport helos are taking off and landing and I love having apache's flying around almost non-stop. The city has expanded a lot to the west now almost to the point that the airport is in the middle of the city and supposedly the city councill wants it gone to make room for more high density housing and retail stores.

Site changes????

See, here we go again!! were talk'n bout changes to the site, then someone is pissed bout different subjects. Now the talk is about an airport.
Listen Kids_____________________, that is what this site is about. How many conversations have you ever been in, that the subject haddn't been changed??? You may ask how in the hell did we go from talkin bout titties and end up talkin about the size of bore on an engine???
Life is too short, eat desert first!!!!
My thought is, if you don't like the subject, look at the pictures, video's. The subject will change, like the weather. Or look at policeone.com. If it's bed time_________??
Like I mentioned, "just my thought".
When I get tired, I email vid's to other guys I work with. They really enjoy all the stuff you guys post.
They ask me,___where in the hell did you find that one.
This Site is very informative, and some times you guys are just full of SHIT, which I enjoy also!! Some will talk about personal things in their life. They may be reaching out for advice. Perhaps to get something off ther mind. But on this site, one can ask and others will lend support. If one gives religious support, that is fine with me!! Greasy just told us he became a Christian. For me that news makes me proud of the man for bettering his life. That was great NEWS!!! For some, they hav'nt ever, seen the inside of a church. Thats your choosing. Some will go to to church only on Easter. That is also your business.
We talk about taking back our Country____________which allows you to go to church, or not. That is another topic we all have weighted in on. Freedom!! Freedom!!!
You see how easy it is to go off subject??
I love this Site, You can tell someone to Kiss yer Ass one moment then yer email'n them 5 mins. later!!
Remember_________________Freedom, Gents!!! This is ment for all our Sisters also.

My ideas for the site

I agree completely with the chat area or shout box or whatever that's called. I would also love to see videos able to be posted without being embedded from other sites again. I can't view videos from a government computer. But then again, if videos are put right on here, then a web filter might list this site as one with streaming videos, huh? That'd result in the whole site being blocked on G-computers. Nevermind that. In fact, just tell me to shut up. I'm dumb.
