SKS question!!!

I have a friend that has an SKS and is looking for a Picatinny Tri Rail Mount to fit over the top of the reciever. We found several that are compatible but the majority of the reviews are mixed. They range from "great product", to "poduct shakes and rattles"! The link to the item im talking about is as follows...

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SKS030-31.html

I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to fix this problem(other than convincing my friend to buy an AK) or knew of another product that would work. You guys have helped me out in the past so dont let me down now guys!!!

Cheap SKS

What is the best source for a relatively inexpensive SKS? I had one as a kid, and have no idea as to which countries make the good ones and which ones make junk. Also, the cheaper than dirt sight has a rail that replaces the gas tube. Maybe my EO Tech will go good on a forward mount on an SKS

For a good SKS try here. But keep it quiet. Don't want prices to go up!
Reaper has dealt with them before and says they are OK!

that site via the link is a great company to deal with!myself and some associates have to date purchased 17 1280 round cases of surplus 7.62x39 yugo ammo from them.all the ammo was top quality!

sks

the make of the sks for some of these accessories makes no difference.if it is loose put in a new crosspin(the pin that holds the cover down)as far as the gas tube mount,i have one of those too.it fits good but i dont have anything to mount to it right now.a cheap sks, well, not right now!the only ones i am seeing are yugo's and they are running 350 dollars for a gun that doesnt have the chrome lined barrel like the other varients do.

which one would you prefer---a really good AK-47 or variant, OR a really good SKS, and WHY?? Remember, you are answering for an old dude, who knows almost nothing about such firearms. :>((

Thanks, samD........

Yes, we knew about that shoot, it is a great one, but having just returned from Front Sight, we have to save some pennies for the next big trip. The next out of the area Cowboy shoot for us will probably be Mule Camp Shootout, in Georgia, in May. Did you know that they have a shooting category for old farts, like me--"Elder Statesman"?

choice

both the AK and the SKS shoot the same caliber so that is out of the equation. The AK is lighter, uses changeable magazines,is more compact in overall length.the SKS is heavier, has a fixed magazine(it can be changed but other magazines dont work as well),has a full length stock, tends to be more accurate.both Ak's and SKS's have variants with and without chromelined barrels.i personally like the SKS due to the fact that with it's basic shape and magazine size it is more "range friendly" and is easier to shoot off a bench, because lets be realistic here,we aint using these weapons in combat.if i could only choose one(luckily i dont have to!lol)i would choose a russian SKS or variant

Thank you......

for that good analysis. I HOPE we won't be using these weapons in combat, but who can be sure, these days !!

scoping the sks

considering the scope, mount and manual offered at cheaper than dirt. not too sure of the reciever mount due to possible movement, but that of course depends on how well it is fitted. Also looked at the choate machining 18-08-02 which is drilled and taped to the side and is still tall enough to use the open sites. Feel the drill and taped would be more secure but the reviews on the cheaper than dirt kit are very good. What u think?

go with the receiver mounted scope kit they offer!the scope has a mildot reticle,it is a cheapy but after 500 plus rounds it still works!if your gun has a sloppy top cover order a new cross pin with your scope kit, plus you get stripper clips with the kit which still work with the scope and mount!

scoping the sks

Found deal at gunaccesories.com, a 4x30 p4 mil dot scope with the reciever piece with 4 set screws, mount and rings, $50 with shipping. Got 1 problem. When I ues my laser bore sighter I can not get a clean dot. The bore on my sks is very bright and the laser lite seems to reflect off the riflings and makes the laser lite dot fuzy and too big to trust. Any ideas?
