I bought a used (but looked & ran new) 3000 series Cub Cadet last year. This summer I find that first, I needed to run it with partial choke. I tried some fuel additive & it seemed to help. I still find that the engine surges when not under load. Any ideas?

Thanks guys,

need to blow out the fuel lines with air. If you left fuel in the tank over the winter it will plug it up.

just put sea foam in the fuel tank, run it for a bit then shut it down and let the sea foam do its magic, after a few hours run it then when it is about out of fuel fill with fresh gas.

shoot it. Won't help the engine, but it'll be fun. And sea foam is too difficult. Try Elmo bubble bath.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Maybe I'll just pull off the carb but I don't understand why it surges only with no load. If I engage the deck and start mowing it runs fine.
