I suggest a remington 700p. You can do a lot to it. The FN SP is really sweet too, but costs a little more.

I have a remington 700p in .308. I like it very much, put harris bipods on it and am going to put a good optic on it when I can afford it. A barrett M82/M107 is great if you can afford the price tag,I plan to get one eventually. Don't forget that Barrett makes bolt action .50 BMGs for about half the price of the M82/M107.
