hey check out beergeek.biz they are reasonable and it is fun to order a few hard to find beers and try them. Like San Miguel from Philipines or Red Horse. Those are hard to find in the US. Kirin from Japan. Anything from Fullers in England. Dragon Stout from Jamaica. Ect...check them out.

its actually a very good tastin beer, also Bohemia beer is very good,before you know it you'll have the urge to swim across small rivers.

Now THAT'S flavor! Guinness Stout's pretty good, and so is Yuengling Lager, if you like stout and lager. Yuengling dark looks like Coca Cola so you can pour your Yuengling dark into a coca cola bottle and drink it at the public places that don't allow open containers...

Really, they don't have a very good reputation anywhere else. "Lite" beers, in particular, are a joke, since most all American beers are considered 'lite' and lightweight anywhere else both in flavor and alcohol content. (One of my colleagues did a Master's Thesis on the real versus percieved alcohol content of German vs. American beers.)

It is NOT true that Germans drink their beer warm. I was just there and every restaurant I went to served very cold beer. Probably the most common in Germany is Bitburger Pilsner, a very good and flavorful beer. Billboards all over Germany say simply, 'Bitte ein Bit' (Please {may I have} a Bit{burger} beer). Interestingly, they sell beer by the glass as a fraction of a liter, so you order .5, .7, etc. and they just fill the glass fuller.

The 'warm beer' issue is true for Guinness, the Irish beer, which is a very dark beer traditionally without refrigeration. That brings out the subtle flavors of the beer which you would not taste if it were ice cold. (Same rule applies to wine. Drink reds at room temperature; drink whites colder, but not ice cold or you won't taste it.)

To get a good American beer you're going to have to spend some more money and buy a regional beer. Around here Henry Weinard is a popular beer. Pyramid (formerly Thomas Kemper) also has a good reputation. Another is Mack & Jacks. I remember the generic white 'Beer' cans that came in a matching box for cheap! Don't see it any more. So if you're a Bud guy or a Coors guy, do try to branch out and try some better beers. You may be surprised.
