the springfield xdm 40 cal is one sweet gun i'll tell you that much but i am looking at a 1911 springfield good idea or bad? really want a kimber but very spendy.

I like springfield also. Although they don't actually make the XD series (HS 2000), they have added some good improvements to it with the XDM series. I love my M1A and my springfield 1911. I just suggest that you don't go with the mil spec version, if you are ever planning on adding any upgrades. It is cheaper to save up and buy the pistol the way you want it from the manufacturer, than to buy a mil spec and try to add the upgrades yourself.

I have owned to Springfield 1911's and loved both pistol a lot. I shot the crap out of both and they worked great. I shot about 20,000 rounds thru one and the other pistol I shot 100,000 rounds. Both were great pieces.

get the XD. Much better than a 1911. The only reason the 1911 has been around so long is the Glock and XD weren't around in 1911 and 1926
