All right you guys. I'm narrowing down to purchase time. Yesterday I asked about the Sig 250 and H&K UPC 40's. Today it's the Springfield vs Glock 40's. I like all but the Springfield and the Glock feel the best in my hand. So lets here some pros & cons on these. I want to purchase one for my Christmas present to me! |
LLE
both handguns. I got the XD-40SC first and believed that I had found the perfect weapon for me. It fit my hand perfectly, and was superbly accurate. Then, I found that despite those fine characteristics, I could not handle the double strength spring in combination with the grip safety which had to be perfectly depressed in order to unlock the slide, when I was attempting tactical actions, in shooting school.
I tried the Glock, and found its simplicity and reliability, in addition to its ease of tactical handling and great accuracy, were much better for me.
My guess is the XD-40 models with longer slides would be easier to handle than the sub-compact was, but the grip safety still might be a problem for ease of handling.

You can't go wrong with the Springfield XD 40.
ebear
you know the xd -m .40s out now why not get the latest
Reaper308
both are great and reliable. I would go with the one that feels best in your hand. See whether you like the XD's grip safety or not
scudrunnernrh
I use the glock 17 at work and I own an XD compact .45. The Glocks are great guns, so all yall Glock fans out there dont hate me for what I'm bout to say, j/k but I would have to recomend the XD. (IF it fits yer hand better than the Glock). Reason being, The XD has the back strap safety, the slide rides higher on the frame than the glock so it wont cut yer hand open when you shoot, the grip is a little more filling, it may be a few dollars cheaper depending on where you go, and the XD is a little heavier which will help a little with countering recoil. Bottom line though, as far as reliability goes i believe the glock and xd are both great, they are both very reliable, they both will take extreme conditions and still shoot, theyre both reasonably priced. Put one of each in your hand and weigh all the options. If you can shoot both, see wich one calls yer name the loudest, either way your choosing a gun that you can defenately trust your life with. ok i'll shut up now

One more thing about the XD taht I think I didnt mention. The XD has an ambidextrious magazine release and I dont think Glock does, at least any Glock I have ever seen or used.
TacDoc
Yea i agree with the XDm they have changable grips for the back, and i think they get bigger or different grip desgin, but i'm not being a glock hater but the feel like crap in my hand... and I thought the beretta 92 was the only gun maybe right for me, but Xds features are close if not better than glock, and like Scud mentioned it's more user friendly for us "south paws"

i never liked the feel of a glock...well atleast the ones i have fired. But the xd felt very comfortable in my hand. Both very accurate. So I bought a TAURUS 24/7 LOL......GREAT FIT FOR MY HAND.
scudrunnernrh
the in hand fit, in my opinion is most important, guns are kinda like shoes, if they dont fit and arent comfortable, dont buy them
chris geel
I like glock very much and i think it is n great weapon, but not in a 40.
I heard of 3 that blew up last year and i saw photos today. So i would go for the xd.I shot both and must say the xd is the one i would go for, it just feels right in my hand and the grip safety is just great.
Reaper308
blew up? gee I must be lucky!
samD
How many Colts, S&Ws or any other gun have "blownup?" I would love to see the stats on this. Were the Glocks using +P ammo? Hanloads and stupidity have a lot to do with malfunctions. You paint to broad of a pic of Glocks with an unfounded statement. Sic him LLE...LOL
clintlebo
I also agree with raper and samD, if you do not know, I am not a big fan of Glocks, but...I would like to see the pictures of"3 blown up Glocks" myself; furthermore, if they did blowup, think about how many Glocks are in use right now compared to the 3 that "blew up". Excellent track record in my opinion.

entirely. All we have is hearsay, and no hard evidence. There could be many ulterior motives for many different people to spread misinformation. Does the phrase profit-motive ring any bells?
coldfront
this is the only thing that I could find about exploding glocks. This one exploded due to being in a fire http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/alex.html
clintlebo
I do not think this would be exclusive to Glocks. At least the guy saved his truck. How do you turn this into insurance?

Reaper308
it was burned in a fire! I have been searching for pics as well, with no luck. I found an article where new haven and portland PD's encountered a couple of explosions. it is hard to tell if this was an ammunition problem, or weapon malfunction. As mentioned above, I'm sure that the numbers are so small, it should not affect anyone's purchasing decisions. I'm sure that an XD/HS2000 has exploded somewhere.

great stuff here, eh? Come on join in, we love everybodies opinion. What is the worst that can happen, maybe learn something about guns and defending yourself and loved ones...
samD
It is free and commercial free...
coldfront
That was samD, stay tuned after the commercial break when we'll delve back into the jew-jitsu argument... what? oh you sad no commercials. got it lol
shadow walker
Have owed both and I got rid of the glock. The Xds I believe are a better choice one reason they don't have a AD when dropped and don't tell me no one has ever dropped a weapon next is take down and last they just do not malfunction even in mud and sand oh and they fire underwater. I wished I could of had one when I was in the service......shadow walker...thats my nickles worth

Over the summer I went to the gun show here in Phoenix with the intention of buying the Springfield XD. After comparing the features of various Glocks and XD's, it really came down to how each felt in my hand. What I left with was a Styer M40-A1 and I could not be happier. The Styer features are more comperable to an XD than most any Glock model but the results at the range were noticably better than both. The best part is while the retail for the M40-A1 is about the same as the XD, the actual cost was waaay lower than either the Springfield or the Glock. If you can find one, it's absolutely worth a look.

There's a video of the glock firing underwater in here, but who cares? When would you fire your defensive gun underwater. That's ridiculous. As for takedown, the Glock is much easier than the xd and how many guns have you dropped that have gone off? The Glock firing pin (striker) is not under tension until the trigger is pulled, so I doubt that happened. Not everyone likes the Glock, but there is no reason to use ridiculous arguments like that to convince people you're right.
raffycanlas
i own the xd40 and i used to own the g23, the g23 is more accurate but i cant stand the recoil
Reaper308
the recoil is a little snappy. I had to get used to it
Mohave_cowgirl
I have had both. They are great guns, but if I had to recomend any gun it would be the Springfield XD 45. I have come to find I am partial to that round. Hope that helps.
ebear
i've got to agree on the .45, once you shoot it it tops the list, but it will also brake the wallet!!!!lolol
Mohave_cowgirl
LOL yeah. I tend to forget about that part. I just go get what I want and what I need when it comes to guns and ammo. Figure out the rest of the bills later. Told you I have a problem. LOL
ebear
it must be contagious, i've got the same desease!!!!!well now that the football season is over ( thanks for nothing Cards!!!!) i can save for more weapons!!1 lol
samD
made em eat it. Nice day all in all...
ebear
but i invested more money than usual in squares and did'nt get one...fn squares!!!!!
Gunnin88
My friend has a xd 357 sig. It sucks very hard to hit target. 357 sig is a shity round I guess.
Reaper308
I like the .357 sig round. I think the only downside is the cost of ammo. I would say the problem is with your friend and not the caliber
Gunnin88
none of us could group consitantly with that gun. Read a couple articles 357 sig is notoriuosly inaccurate. Infact it's so bad I beleive he is going to buy a 40 barrel for it.
Same distance my glock 17 and his colt 1911 were dead on every shot.
runawaygun762
it ain't gonna hurt you.
ChrisYZFR1
I have both. they are both very nice weapons. Shoot 50-100 rounds out of both and see which you like better. It is gonna be a hard decision.
I would go with Glock. Only reason being, is I have had glocks alot longer and I have NEVER had one problem out of them. But then again I have never had a problem out of my Xd either.
