Fellow Gun Nuts:

I am thinking about purchasing a Springfield 1911. My options are a 4 inch barrel or a 5 inch -- does it really matter? I am going to assume thatthe 5 inch is more accurate and maybe has less kick. Other than that, the aesthetics of the 5 inch look a little better to me. Are there other considerations to be considered? ;)

I would love to hear from you all.

go with 5" bbl

unless you are planning to conceal the weapon... go with the 5". It will be more accurate, less recoil and produce higher muzzle velocity. The only advantage to the 4" is that its smaller and easier to conceal

I have owned 3, 1911

Only one was a short barrel, the other 2 were 5 inch barreled 1911. I liked the 5 inch barrel more. The shorter barrel was nice to carry. When I was shooting IPSC I was using a Springfield 1911A1 in a 5 inch with both guns.

If you are going to be carrying it concealed go with the 4inch but anything else stick with the full size 5inch. Now that most of the better mnfg are putting picatini rails on them the configurations that you can do with them are almost endless.
