They're still at it over which handgun will be after the M9, if it's replaced.
Here is what was listed on Fox news as military service handguns. I've been out of the Mil a very long time but I don't think I would have forgotten issue Hi-Standard .38 Super 1911s.

Man, Model Years in Use Overall Length Caliber Class Barrel Length Capacity
Beretta M9 Commercial 1985 - present 8.5 in. 9mm Luger Full Size Pistol 4.9 in. 15 rounds
Hi-Standard United States M1911A1 1926 -1985 8.25 in. .38 Super +P Full Size Pistol 5 in. 7 rounds

Here's the URL to the story.

It will be replaced

Beretta's contract runs out within the next five years and the Army has already said hell no to the M9A3 Beretta tried to offer as a replacement.

Uhmm....

I may be telegraphing my ignorance here, but aren't the Glock 17 & 19 both available in multiple chamberings, including .45, .40. & 9mm? Maybe I'm just confused....
