Well I'm kinda new to this site been on here like 5 days maybe. Anyhow I'm really a computer dummy but I'm trying to learn. I'm hoping to make some new friends on here. Like I said in my profile I'm in the French Foreign Legion 2 Regiment Parachutists, I'm on a deployment in Somalia right at the moment. I've been on the Irovy Coast as well. I was in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years went to Iraq and Afghanistan there. I started my military career as an 0311 and went on to become an 8541. I do basically the same job in the Legion I'm a Sniper/Diver. I'm from a small (actually tiny) town in Missouri and grew up hunting. My dad is retired from the U.S. Army myt younger brother is in the Corps he deploys in March. Other than that not much else to say. Hope to become friends with you all and have colorful discussions.

You're coming dangerously close to taking my screenname in vain. If thou doest that, thou shalt not play with mine cool toys when I become the annointed POTUS.

Welcome. From what you've posted so far, and your comments, I think you'll fit in here very well.
Tell me, under what authority does the Foreign Legion operate? To whom does it answer? I know next to nothing about it. Most of my (undoubtedly incorrect) information comes from old Hollywood movies. In what countries does it operate?

The Legion

The Legion is under the authority of the French Army, every Legionarie is from a counrty outside of French control. That is why we are The Foreign Legion. However we are fully backed by the French Army (when we do good). We are all from different walks of life yet bonded by The Legion. The French have territories the still control in Africa and Afghanistan, if I had to spefically direct you to who controls us it would be the embassy in the area we are in at that moment everyone wants things controlled differently. The Legion is very small less than 8000 men enlisted. Our officers come directly from the regular french army. I hope that was a good answer.

Thanks for the information. What is your term of enlistment? What weapons do you use?

Thanks all

First of all sorry runawaygun I chose this name because I was an 8541 in the United States Marine Corps and spent many many days with an M40A3. No harm meant. Now onto other stuff, we are now using the FA MAS in 5.56x45. It is capable of firing single shots, three shot bursts or continuous bursts and can be adjusted to eject spent cases to the left or
right side to accommodate left-handed users. The design of the handle also enables it to be used for firing 500 gram anti-tank rounds or anti-personnel grenades. As far as where we are operating we are in central Africa, Djibouti, Polynesia, Lebanon, Chad, and Afghanistan that is what I can think of right off the top of my head. Any other questions please ask I will do my best to answer. Thanks again

The town I'm from is named Frankford it has a population of around 200 during a good month. I grew up all over the U.S. but the Twin Pike area being Pike County Mo and Pike County IL have always been home. Right on the Mississippi river grew up hunting fishing and drinking tons of cheap ass beer.

zx12rmike. In the post right above mine he said 7.62 somethin somethin. Fighting to help maintain colonies for the French? Well, I guess you gotta get your kicks somewhere, don't you? My mother in law lives outside Quincy, IL. My wife is originally from Canton, MO, about 45 miles north of Hannibal. That's around the same area, isn't it? I'm not too familiar with that part of the state. I'm from Lebanon, MO (Yeah, soutwest, nigga. Huh? I don't know). Legionnares have a good reputation for tough training and very good PT programs. I heard about an obstacle course you guys have in Burma, I think, that took a team from the USMC 7 hours to complete, but took a team of Legionnares only 45 minutes. But then again, knowing the Frogs, it was rigged in their favor. Hah hah. I have thought about the Legion myself as a good new start, but Working for the French and the fact that Legionnares have a wonderful history of putting up a hellacious fight before being completely wiped out kinda turned me off of it. I guess whatever floats our boats, right? Good to have you on this site and remember that most of us here are complete morons who do a pretty good job of making ourselves sound like, well, complete morons. Except ebear. he's always serious, and nearly always right.

Runs

Hey yeah seems like we are from around the same area , well your inlaws anyhow I have been through Lebanon to I used to drive Hwy 54 west to Rt 5 a Camdenton and then jump on to I-44 at Lebanon. I did that alot when I was seein a girl down in Joplin area. She ws about a nut case. We ended it when I was told by her and her family I choose either her or the military. That was when I was in the Corps and I was the poster child for Marine Corps Grunts. I was hardcore into it. I went to the Legion due to the fact that 1) They pay way better 2) One of my closest friends who is doing my tattoo this week went and talked me into it. and 3) I love to go to exotic locations meet differently cultured people and shoot at them(joking) No I love being a soldier the way I figure it is we are still on the same side, I was working with some SEALs about 3 months ago and they were doing God knows what over there. Our O course in Burma is a bitch yeah it is pretty rough, but after they make us run it in a full combat load it gets a ton easier.

hey 7.62 X51 ..

with out being all emo.. be careful over there son.. Thiers places that might be ok to die for, but where you ares just not one of them..

I don't think theres a vet on this site that at one point or other hasn't thought about packing it in and doing what you did.. Diffrence is we thought about it, you did it.. Last time i had an offer to go overseas i was a Lt. with the AZ dept. of corrections, and haliburton made an offer for corrections supervisors to contract in Iraq.. I thought about it pretty serious, lost my best Sgt to them, and course i would have made even more.. At that point we discovered that my mother was looking at the end of her life (COPD) so i backed out.. Not EVEN comparing what you do to a bunch of goofy contract prison guards, just saying even as you age you still think about and miss going over seas..

Everyone with half a mind knows your in about the most hostile territory on earth.. watch your six, and please do get on and let us know when your back home..

i had heard that the FFL had a retirement home in France for those who "went the distance".. Thinking that would be the most amazing retirement home on earth if its the case.. do you know if thats for real or just bs.

They offer you full citizenship and pretty much give you a house. I mean you will have noral bills but the home is basically free for your service to the country. Atleast that is what we were told.
