everyone is stocking up on ammo and guns and related items.has anyone been purchasing and storing things for hard times like dried beans, rice, flour, etc.?it is nice to have a food supply on hand even if it is beans and rice.add a rabbit to a pot of beans and you have a meal! "There is a time for all things, a time to preach and a time to pray, but those times have passed away. There is a time to fight, and that time has now come." --Peter Muhlenberg, from a Lutheran sermon read at Woodstock, Virginia, 1776

i would also recommend gas masks for your family. if you get some mil surp masks they're kind of cool, and they'll work great god forbid you ever have to use them
greasypaws
i just figure if we need this kind of gear we are done anyway!

but I prefer at my age to go down fighting.. Just think if the Israelis had adopted that philosophy--they long ago would have been exterminated by the Arabs surrounding them. Use any tool that might prolong life, at least long enough to kill your attacker. Gas masks, if they are in good operating condition might make a big difference.

Good idea to stock salt, grains & beans, quality canned goods...and repair items, odds & ends that help general maintenance and repair...oil, wire etc....stuff that will get you by in hard and competitive times.
when it comes to gas masks...if/when it comes to that i am with greasy...
at that point it is critical = critical = to be right with God.
at that point it is time to 'let them win' and go on to a better place...

it would be a hell of a thing if stuff got that bad. I'm simply not going to shoot my neighbor to protect my food supply. I'll share and hope that two heads are better than one for forming an alliance to survive. After all, he has energy to procure as much as I do. I think th bigger threat is an invasion of one group of folks who feel they are entitled against another group of folks who have worked hard and gotten their act together (You follow what I'm sayin' here?). We need to be prepared for that, and that just may be why I've got more 'utensils' than I can possible sho--umm, er, I mean use at any one time.

DEMO
I purchased a gas fireplace insert, water filter after 911. Made me know that we would at least have water and heat no matter what. I have my chem gear just in case, but hopefully nothing happens.
The heat and water came in handy during our 2006 Oct storm. We were without electricity for two weeks. We had water and heat. No problems. Need a generator though

I picked up a 1200 watt generator off of ebay for 75 dollars. 2 stroke. runs about 9 hours on 1 gallon of mix. very portable
greasypaws
i have good experience with generators.my friends who homesteaded for 15 years have used every make and model of generator.these people know how to live off the grid!the latest generator they are using is the Champion brand found at Schucks Auto Parts or other places(honda copy).they run a generator for 6-8 hours a day,7 days a week for years.if you are looking for a inexpensive generator look into this brand!they live forever!
