After I suggested that snake tear down the gun last night I tore down the Dan Wesson.
I'd never done more than change grips and barrells. Once I got the side cover off (wasn't easy) I had it in pieces. I left the trigger and hammer assembly in place. Kinda scary but it's all clean and oiled like never before. Did the same with the .22 pistol. No parts left over!

Congrats Vaq

Yea, some of them get pretty nasty, Like Pythons if your not experienced with them, Small tolerances, & magnification don't even think about it. Most others are pretty straight forward.
That Dan even feels better now that it's all cleaned up doesn't it?

The action feels smoother than I ever remember it being. DA trigger pull even feels lighter.
I took a pic of it when it was apart but left my camera. Maybe I will post tomorrow.

You know, I get a lot of handguns for "Action jobs" I tell everyone, I can take your money & do you a fantastic action job, but why don't you let me do a complete tear down & cleaning & just minor smoothing & polishing Then see how you like it, If you still want an action job, I will be more than happy to do it. Sometimes this leads to a long drawn out conversation about the pros & cons of action jobs, what they will & wont do Etc. Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy to chat with folks about stuff. I just cant take there money for something that they dont need or understand??
You would be surprised how much work this has gotten me. People are amazed at the difference a good scrubbing & maby a little polishing makes.

Not a doubt in my mind, Something else you could try, If your Dan stay's dry, (& I am sure it does)
next time try dry powdered Graphite, put it on all touching, rubbing & rearing area's, kind of wipe it on with a lint free Q Tip or what ever you have that will get into tight areas kind of like your trying to message it into the metal, then with a can of dry air, ( Like for computer keyboards) blow things out. Really good technique. epically where dusty. Damn Vaq, here I am running off at the keyboard again, why didn't you tell me to shut up???

Don't worry, You just keep hammering the keyboard, good stuff. The dan stays dry, but also travels with me most of the time. The temp changes and humidity changes do present a challenge. Due to possible condensation issues, I might best stick with oil. I put on a small drop then wipe exess off with a rag. At least that works well on my shotguns. Does that sound reasonable?

Sure does, I forgot you guys actually have humidity & things in TX. Graphite is great stuff but does nothing for rust & moisture.

I work with a bunch of inconsiderate bastards.......Every morning I walk in and there is a half inch of coffee in one pot of a three pot machine, the fuckers know how to drink it but nobody seems to be able to make it, except me! So!.......I start a pot, go fetch my cup and fire up the 'puter and go back where I start another pot as the first one that I made is now finished and full, assuming that one of the inconsiderate bastards hasn't happened along and filled up their 54 oz coffee tanker and left an empty pot....again! So anywhoo, I have made two or three pots before I take my first sip!!!!!! I'm going to bring my shotgun to work and monitor the coffee machine and which ever fucker that takes the last of the coffee without making a new pot is gonna get poked in the ribs with the winne........lol

Mornin guys :-)

against the boy but if he can't figure out how to play with the big boys then he needs to go play somewhere else, look at elgoo, five years younger and seems to know how to conduct himself in a manner befitting the site....IDK

Yeah it limped along,

come to find out GP changed snakes name to Squiggly D Squirrel (I figured it was sam) so that made him disappear for the evening if not longer, I was pulling ebear's chain as usual which caused him to go into a tizzy and post his multiple "FUCK HAMPSTER" type posts, after all that I was tired so I plopped on the couch and watched TV, so I don't know what happened after that.

Okay, a master

kit w/pistons is $260 and you are probably looking at about $100 in machine work, at very least .030 on the bore and .010/.010 rods and mains. But this does nothing to address the heads, the 2.2's develop excessive valve lash at high miles (I have a '95 S-10 with 274,000 miles on it).

GP's idea of a used engine is a good one, just choose carefully, low miles does not always mean good engine. Find one that is still 'in frame' and do a compression and leak down test on it and pull the valve cover to make sure there isn't a bunch of sludge present, you would be surprised how many people rarely or never change their oil.

The hardest thing was going from 85 degrees to 25 degrees. I am still bitching about that! Nice to have my dog back, though. Glad I don't have Hamp's problem with the coffee. Hamp, why don't you spike a pot with some salt? That would be funny.
