OK, it's not a '32 coupe but I am ready to put a built 355 mouse into a semi-custom '88 Chev C1500. Now, there will be no computer control anymore. This will be a typical small block w/ a 650 Holly. My question is - will a major muffler shop construct a system for me and not include 2 cat converters? They would only last a few hours before they are toast anyway. The truck, when new, required a converter though.

Thanks guys,

It's too late for me, save yourself.

If you tell them it is a Strip only truck then they might do it. It would more than likely cost more, but a speed/hot rod shop would do it!

Street rod exaust

cbxjeff; I have searched everywhere for the same thing, and most or all with a Reputation and licence will not do it, flat out NO!. I ended up having them make the system, legal with cats, then a friend of mine and I bought a pair of cutouts, like from the old days when you took your car to the drags on friday night and ran it back and forth to work all week. In case you don't know cutouts can be welded or slip ons before the cats or after and if your lazy and want to, you can run a cable to direct the flow from inside your vehicle, or they can come with 3 wing nuts you remove and take off block off plate.--- It, the cutout is basically a Y shape, and before the cats you move the disc plate from one pipe exaust direction to straight out and then back again. Here in FL. w/no inspection you can open the cutout and race a guy on the street and even if a cop heard you, unless he wanted to crawl under your car or truck you can close them and be legal again and within decible range. I do know of a friend who has a 650HP cobra mustang and took the cats off altogether and ran another pipe from headers, that is all. He goes out with it every weekend and races for money with the kids at different spots all over town. Never any hassle or been caught yet. The kids have these jap cars and nitrous and forget who was the guys that are my age who races The original muscle cars and w can have nitrous too. In case you do not know if you run Nitrous, you make sure you can regulate the amount you let loose at one time. You buy some regulater gauges and for instance a 50% nitrous shot could work great while throwing a gear and then hit 4th or fith and throw a 70% shot in at the finish. But regulate it. Why? the same guy put nitrous in and gave it a 100% shot with no gauges right from the get go and his Shelby Cobra stick Trans was all over the street. We had to take everything off it and put it back to stock and then back to dealer and they replaced it for free, and then acted like they knew what was going on, especially the mechanic when he pointed out there was a small hole in the hose after the Mass Airflow sensor ? Lucky guy that day. I also did not imply you were lazy, I just wanted to point out the difference to running a cable for the cutouts, not give you a hard time. Have fun, I bought a 99 Pontiac Trans am WS6 w/ram-air in 99 and ordered it with everything I could think of, six speed-LS-1 Vette motor and suspension, headers etc. Too save some writing it is a vette with a pontiac T/A Firebird body w/ ram air and hood. The Vettes were being built in Canada that year and they shipped it minus-body to USA and then put body on. Took a year but still paid 32,900.00 and others paid 34,900.00 for just a reg. WS-6. They made 1500 that year and 500 red and 500 Black, 498 white w/blue pin stripe. 2 just two! that weird Purple that looks different when in sun and shade. Now they are the ones true Pontiac lovers are after first. But they are stock and mines custom. Of course they do not make them at all now. and changed them one year later anyway. But there is a club of guys here in Brandon and Tampa and one purple and he sold it last year for 40,000.00. Mine has 39,543.00miles on it and a sunday dragster- cruiser w/t-tops down on warm day and red/ orange GMC Paint job. Sorry had to brag a little, even if you hate them, which I know you do not because you are a car guy and Gun Guy, like me. JLC

Thanks guys,

In Florida, yes.... You might have to check around but you will find a shop that will do this for you.

Here in Pinellas County there are a few shops of the top of the head.

Allens Ally - Custom Rod shop
Automotive Engineering

Most places claim they have to repeat the original exhaust system, but with a swapped engine you might be able to get them to clamp the cats in such a manner that you can replace them with "test" tubes..

cbxjeff-- Sorry about the book I wrote to you, but the rel deal is on Jegs or Summitt and order the new straight thru, cats. I think even cherry Bomb has them out now and they are street legal. But I stand by the slipons cutouts even after the cats, they give an estimated 15HP almost immediately. If you have a saw you can cut where you want and slip on these bad boys and run the cable under the car or truck and come up thru the shifter hole or drill a new one, and have it where it is easy to reach. I just love fast cars and Guns, and our country and anybody that dosen't like it will have to go threw an awful lot of guys like me.

if you find a place to make them w/out the cats you better watch the cops. they are starting to inspect for them now. i didn,t think ohio was yet, but i found out other wise. and if the vehicle cam with them they look for them. i take them off as soon as i find them but i am taking that chance and will continue to do so.

just another day in paradise
