The names like a hundred years old, and we "smithies" think it's way cool that they put it on an auto for the first time. As you know this was always (post war) the name for the mod 10, and a lot thought that they would but the M&P on the 39/59 series autos, but smith got away from the whole "name" thing around then so never did.
Now if your looking for a better reason than the name, which would make you smart,... I dont have one..

but good things about the M&P.
