I made an order with cabelas today. Got me some goodies headin my way!

Listen to me, and don't order the dumb shit. A drop leg holster is fucking stupid unless you need it to clear your fuckin' body armor. It has too specific a purpose. Get a goddamned belt or paddle holster for the gun. Then get some good quality spare mags like Wilson Combat or Chip McCormicks, then get night sights like Heinie or Warrens. After that, pay a gunsmith to open up the ejection port.
Snake, I'm not very good at very many things, but trust me on this stuff. I won't lead you astray. You will end up just like me, with all kinds of garbage laying around that you bought because you thought you just had to have it.
Buy quality items, one at a time, little by little, and you will end up spending less money in the long run, and the extra time and money will be spent on becoming very good with that weapon.

I have a few tac holsters, and I NEVER wear them... I got them for the above mentioned reason... Combat tours wearing body armor. I tried to wear them out hunting, and remembered how much they rub and how annoying they are, plus they are a slow and awkward draw. I give a BIG thumbs up for the Wilson Combat mags.. (all I use now), and shoot Heinie Straight-eights. I would also suggest thinking about polishing trigger sear and replacing springs to match your loads. For a holster, I generaly carry in a Gatco S.O.B...

use an open-front concealing gament. I tried a couple with a t-shirt and the shirt catches the bottom of the holster sometimes. Not often, but often enough to make me leery of using them. Again, though, if you use an unzipped jacket to cover the gun, they're good holsters.
Snake
I dont plan on carrying my 1911 as a CC weapon. I ordered the DLH to wear around when Target Practicing at home and or at my friends house practicing. It was a cheapy from cabelas just 19.99 and the belt was 19.99. So it was a start.

A belt or paddle holster is more comfortable and provides better training for if and when you do decide to wear it in public. "A cheapy" should not be in your vocabulary, because "A cheapy" means "A doesn't last very long and has to be replaced". That equals "An expensivey".
A leg holster, especially a cheap one that doesn't mount to a leg shroud, is not as comfortable as wearing it on your waist.
Snake
Your absolutely right on the holster deal. I will check into more holsters when funds allow. But like I said I dont think the 1911 is a CC weapon for me. I am thinking smaller something compact and in 9mm.

I hate too, but I have to agree with runaway. I have closets full of useless shit. When you buy bargain shit for the price, you usually get bargain shit. Use you're holster for the time being, but save up and get something decent. It doesn't have to be a custom galco alligator skin shoulder rig... you can get a Blackhawk Serpa paddle or belt holster for about what you spent at Cabelas. It will last and actually be usable.
Although I can't say that I agree with your first pistol choice, I'm actually glad to see you get something. I know you've been wanting a pistol for some time now. I just hope that your responsible with it... and I also hope that you're not lying to us again. If you're lying, runaway will be paying you a visit when he gets off that piece of shit island to give to an alaskan pipeline
Snake
Your right. I will use the rig I got ordered for now and will save up for a better holster. I posted Photgraphic proof I own a 1911. Want me to add a pic with me holding the 1911? lol
Reaper308
I am actually hoping you're lying. Alaskan pipeline while you're wearing indian goggles
Snake
I have to do it as to prove I am not lying. Just a sec while I got through my files.

I don't want to see your ugly mug!
Snake
Ya dont have to look buddy!

Sounds disgusting, yet strangely provacative.
Snake, you can CC just fine with a full-size 1911. Use an IWB holster and it'll work. Good job looking ahead to your next pistol purchase before you even get good with the one you have. It's the mark of a real gun owner. Now pay attention to the advice of some of us and you will do fine from an equipment standpoint. The most important part, training, can only be gotten from dry fire and putting rounds downrange. Snap Caps should be your next ammo purchase.
Do I really need to harp on the point of double, triple, and quadruple checking your weapon before beginning a dryfire session to ensure there is no live ammo in it? I guess I just did.
Snake
accepted. I will read carefully for sure.
ronin1604
PM me.... I might have a spare 1911 belt holster if your interested....
Snake
You have a pm buddy.
Snake
Yeah...got the holster and my belt in the mail today. Both are as usless as it gets. Yep gonna send it back first tide in the morning!
