If this is the type of person that they are going to represent the Tea Parties we are doomed. This just showes we have enemies right at the door.

Just part of "growing pains" she's dead in the water .. Theres a few things that all those who are drawn to the party are absolute about and the second amendment is one of them..

Question gents,

because I don't know. When we purchase a gun and fill out the paperwork etc, doesn't that register the gun to you? They got your ID, the serial number etc. seems like the gov. already has a good idea of what we have, minus antiques, pre Brady.

He keeps that paperwork and if they ask for it he sends it to the powers that be. He said that they go to a Warehouse and are boxed up. So far they have not computerized any of the transfer forms...

So, say I shoot someone or someone steals one of my guns and does the same, they find the weapon at the scene, how do they know that it ever belonged to me? How will they know to contact my FFL to get the original paperwork from the warehouse? Something just doesn't make sense here......I smell a rat.

Wouldn't there be a record there? Or do they just 'check and forget'?

When I worked for Wal Mart in Sporting goods we called
in for a background check. They are only looking for
warrents, ex-cons etc. I had several refused and a couple
got pretty upset, I thought I might have to defend myself

It sounds like "check and forget", run you to make sure of no priors and in the round file you go.

Seems real stupid since all of the info about guns is right there, you had it in your hand, now you want us to list it on our 1040....government in efficiency at its best.

Least as i understand this, and like Sam this is a friend who is a dealer. The only time its compiled is if thier looking specificly for an individuals guns. or the flip of that looking for a weapon.. but not together as in press 1 for name 2 for weapons.. when your getting the phone check this is based on the same sort of thing as a cop calling in for wants and warrants.. If you have an outstanding court case... regardless of the issue, in other words not just domestic issues..any outstanding court appearances yet to happen then that show on thier base. so you have to wait the week.. at that same time its turned down its fwd to another "desk" for a check, and if you do not have the above mentioned as an eg, or any of the obvious then its just disregarded and the dealer can sell the piece based on not hearing back from ATF in the alloted week..

I'm told that if theres a problem, and this is WAY antidotale and were talking about Wickenburg AZ which has a crime rate like mayberry, that its rare, and the dealer hears pretty quick..

A dealer has to keep the yellow sheet forever and ATF might
call with a serial number and the dealer has to find the yellow
sheet for a sale on that number. I've spent 10 or 12 hours looking
at every sheet until you find that number. They wont even have
a date of sale to help you out.

That is right, according to the laws presented to me as a
sales person if they don't call back and customer returns
you are cleared to sell the gun

So there is a "record", there would have to be in order for the ATF to know who to call with a serial number associated with a crime.

there is no wait period. You can buy and receive all in one. If you don;t have a license, then I think the wait is three days.

Then why all the fuss about claiming this shit on our taxes so the gov. knows an itemized run down of our arsenals, the info is already there.....sounds like they are lazy to me.

Nothing this year, I am talking about the "preposed legislation" from nitris's link at the begining of the thread.

Before you get too afraid remember congress overturned
the Braidy bill. They are easing up on gun laws, why pass

you have. When the dealer calls to have your background check to buy a weapon, that's it just your background not who the weapon is sold to but the person buying the weapon. How they find you is simple. On each weapon is a serial number and manufactor, also for imports the importer. They trace it to them they have what dealer it was sold to and he has your information. Thats how they find who bought it.

I see thanks nitris

So they don't really have a way to trace it to you directly, but through who originaly sold it.....makes sense.

Do these clowns have any idea how much paper work that
would create and how much that would cost?

I don't see it as having 1 in 1,000,000 chance of passing

It's been floating around since early 2000's as S.2099. And I find it annoying that a NICS check would return as a denial, yet no police called or showed up as nearly every reason for a NICS denial is a conviction of some sort that makes attempting to purchase a gun another felony. And people in congress want to pass more laws, yet the ones on the books aren't enforced.

a lot of time it's a mistaken identity, a name or
social close enough to warrant a closer look
in other words it's usually their fuck up and
just causes problems for good citizens.
I know this 1st hand from being a seller and
running checks myself

all you do is fill out the 4473 and walk out. You don't even have to wait for a NICS check.
