Texas water tank

Take a look at what shows up at a South Texas stock water tank in dry weather. For those of you that have never hunted in South Texas, sometimes we post motion detector cameras at our feeders/tanks to see what is going on. Check out this sequence at a water tank.

coatimundi

The 'badger' pictured is a coatimundi...another mammalian immigrant from the southern bordern. Basically a Central American raccoon; when my wife lived in South TX she had some in her attic.

Last frame makes me wanna lay in a stock tank with a snorkel and a speargun waiting for them to show up.

They are prominent here in Arizona, and are NOT a pig. They are related to:
Peccaries (also known as javelinas, by the Portuguese name javali and Spanish jabalí or pecarí) are medium-sized mammals of the family Tayassuidae. Peccaries are members of the artiodactyl suborder Suina, as are swine (Suidae) and possibly hippopotamuses.[1] They are found in the southwestern area of North America and throughout Central and South America. Peccaries usually measure between 90 to 130 centimetres (3.0 to 4.3 ft), and a full-grown adult usually weighs between about 20 to 40 kilograms (44 to 88 lb).

People often confuse peccaries, which are found in the Americas, with pigs which originated in Afro-Eurasia, especially since some domestic pigs brought by European settlers have escaped over the years and now run wild as razorback hogs in many parts of the United States.

When I first posted this pic, it was reported to have been in AZ.

Javelinas

Sam, yes there are javelinas, mostly in the Big Bend region.
I gotta admit, the deer don't look like a south TX deer.
Do yall have whitetail in your neck of the woods?
