ok fellas

lookin for 2 things. . . . i have an old friend (and i mean old!!) who needs some .30 cal for his one and only gun. kinda hard to find around here oddly enough and he is drawing a mil pension from ww2. any ideas? and my girlfriend is looking for something in the reach out and touch ya department. . .maybe a .308. but they are pricey. a smaller caliber but still has distance would work just fine. her birthday is in march and as it is everywhere else money is in short supply. any ideas?

My wife's gun

I got my wife a Remington 700 .223 with synthetic stock and heavy barrel. The .223 with reach out there with a heavy bullet (69-77 gr). Plinking ammo is cheap (relatively speaking) and very accurate if you can roll your own. As for the .30 cal ammo, check out the CMP website.

what twist is in your wife's 700? It is most likely a 1&12 or 1&14 twist.

I don't know what the twist is. She still hasn't even tried to break the barrel in. I wish she'd fire the damned thing so I could play with it. I know some bullets will be too heavy for her gun, but it'll be fun to experiment with it. I'm hoping she hates it so I can sell it off for a .308. dr.angus, it cost us 647 for the rifle, not much for the scope as I didn't want to invest a lot in optics until I know she wants it. Here's the website for the ammo sales. http://www.thecmp.org/ammosales.htm
