Grundy, Va (WVVA)- Buchanan Co. 911 dispatchers have confirmed that three police officers have been shot near the Grundy area in Deskins. It happened around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Details are limited, but WVVA has received reports that all three officers were shot by the same man. The suspect is reportedly armed with a rifle, shooting at the officers from the mountains. Police are currently searching for the man. He is armed and dangerous.

Dispatchers have called in helicopters to airlift the wounded officers to an unknown hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown.

For safety reasons I have my guns at the ready. Not loaded but my 1911 mags are set and ready just incase. I dont think anything is gonna happen here at my home but luck favors the prepared.

From what I can tell there is no need for me to have my guns loaded. The threat of the shootings coming to my area of the woods is minimal if not non -exsistant. In other words its a slim chance anything will take place here that involves whats happening in Grundy. I have yet to confirm this but word is that we have a few U.S. Marshals in the area as well. Which suggest that there is more goin on that just a man in the woods. I will try and keep ya all updated with what news I find.

GRUNDY, Va. — Emergency dispatchers say a man in the mountains has shot at police officers in the southwestern Virginia community of Grundy and at least one deputy has been wounded.

State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said the deputy was shot Sunday in Buchanan County. She said no further information was available.

Buchanan County emergency dispatchers told WVVA-TV that four officers were shot near the Devils Branch area near Grundy at about 3 p.m. and that one officer was killed.

The station says the suspect shot at the officers with a rifle from a mountainous area.

A message left with the Buchanan County sheriff wasn’t immediately returned.

This is from my local news on Yahoo.

I have to agree with ISD on this one. Starting with a dry gun is starting behind the 8-ball, and maybe enough to get you killed. I keep my revolver loaded ALL the time, unless I am practicing inside my house. I will unload it set the rounds in a speed loader and within easy reach. When I get ready to go to bed, the gun is loaded and put back where I store it. If I know something is going on around me, then I will often load my shot gun also. The shotty usually gets a couple of bird shot followed by a buckshot round. Or sometimes with the buckshot between the two bird shots. Yes, If I know there is a standoff in my area, I keep one in the chamber of my shotty too. Right now I also have a .45 colt commander that stays in my work van. It belongs to my boss, but the van stays at my house. It's your decision, but as far as I know, Virgina doesn't have a law stating that you can't have a loaded weapon in your home. If you still live with your parents, THEY may have that rule. I don't know your situation so I can't say. My mom didn't like loaded guns, but never told me that I couldn't keep mine loaded in the house. She knew that I knew how to handle guns, and was safe with them. Keep us updated on what is going on.

I have to get off of here for a while to take my daughter to eat and then back to her mom's. Will talk to y'all later.

I live with my granny at the moment and so I respect her rule about loaded guns in the house. I keep my mags next to my 1911 at all times and can have my 1911 loaded in under 2 sec.

I will keep ya all up dated when I find out something new on this.

UPDATE: We have more information out of Buchanan County, Virginia. The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department says four of their deputies have been shot this afternoon. Our NBC affiliate in Bluefield is reporting one of the officers has died. Details are still very limited at this point.

Here are the facts we have confirmed. The shooting happened near Grundy in the Devils Branch area about 3 p.m. Officers are searching for a suspect. They are near the intersection of State Routes 620 and 83. Emergency dispatchers say a man began shooting at deputies with a rifle from a mountainous area. It's unclear exactly why the officers were at the location where the shooting started.

Officers from several different Southwest Virginia departments are actively searching for the suspect at this time. Virginia State Police is also on the scene. At this point, we don't have a specific description of the suspect. The conditions of the other deputies are not known at this time. We do know one deputy has been flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center.. but we don't know their condition at this time. We have a crew on the scene right now and we'll have a full live report tonight on Fox Tri-Cities News at Ten and on News Five at 11.

Guys I will watch the news and post what they say in the live report.

Now its on CNN website

(CNN) -- At least two deputies in Buchanan County, Virginia, have been shot, according to a Buchanan County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.

The shooting occurred in the Devils Branch community, said spokeswoman Sharon Thornsbury. The entire sheriff's department of 35 staffers was on the scene, she said.

Information on the deputies' conditions was not immediately available. The department has asked for help from U.S. Marshals and the Virginia State Police, Thornsbury said.

Buchanan County is in southwestern Virginia, near the border with West Virginia.

Orginaly the LE was lookin for 2 but in reality it was a lone shooter firing from multiple positions it would seem. However the shooter is dead now.

BTW

I respect you for keeping with your Granny's rules. In that case I can accept your reasoning for it. I can't say that I agree with her rules, just that I respect you for abiding by them. Grannies are special people! I hope that you are able to keep her and yourself safe.

Yep its safe here

My room is where my guns are. And if needed I can be locked and loaded in under 2 sec with my .45. As for my 12 gauge I could have it loaded and at the ready in about 8 seconds. However that may be risky so I think the .45 is the best bet for 2 reasons. One being its fast to relaod and secondly where I live in a trailer tryin to maneuver a massive 12 gauge in a tight hallway is like fittin an elephant in a Geo Metro lol and with my .45 I eliminate that and can maneuver freely.

Suicide by cop,

is something that people do when they want to commit suicide but don't want to do it themselves. Some of them believe that their life insurance will pay off but I don't think it does in a case like that. They will create a situation that requires the police to be called on them then they will do something like shoot at the cops or towards them or sometimes just walk out like they are going to shoot, and coerce the cops into killing them.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police are investigating a multiple fatal shooting that occurred in the Vansant community of the county Sunday afternoon (March 13, 2011). Shortly after 2 p.m., the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about a larceny in progress at the Rogers Service Center (salvage yard) on Route 620 in Buchanan County.

The sequence of events once the deputies arrived on scene is still under investigation at this time. However, a total of four Buchanan County deputies were shot by an armed assailant at the salvage yard. The first two deputies to arrive on scene were shot and killed. When two more deputies arrived at the scene, the assailant shot at both of them. These two deputies are still alive at this time. One of the surviving two deputies was flown by Virginia State Police Med-Flight helicopter to Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. His injuries are considered life threatening. The other surviving deputy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Virginia State Police, Wise County Sheriff's Office, Russell County Sheriff's Office, Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Marshals Service, and FBI have responded to the scene to aid the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office. Tactical Teams established a perimeter to contain the active shooter situtation. It has been confirmed that the male shooter is deceased. State police are still in the process of confirming the identity of the shooter.

At this time the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Wytheville Field Office is leading the criminal investigation and currently processing the scene for evidence.
