“Gift Cards for Guns” Avondale and Phoenix Police gun buy back program

The Phoenix and Avondale Police Departments are holding a Gun Buyback Event designed to bring attention to gun safety issues and allow citizens to turn in firearms for a reward. The event tomorrow, Saturday, December 3, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The departments are joining St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital, the Trauma Center at Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and other community organizations in the “Gift Cards for Guns” event.

“Gun buy-backs are an effective tool in the prevention of gun violence in our community and lessens the opportunity for a gun to be stolen and used in another crime,” states Det. Reuben Gonzales, spokesperson for the Avondale Police Department.

According to the Arizona Child Fatality Review, on average at least two children a month died as a result of gun-related injuries. What’s more, one-fifth of all guns in the home of families with children are kept both loaded and unlocked. This community partnership is an important step in educating the public and reducing gun-related injuries.

The completely anonymous, no questions asked event will take place at the following Phoenix and Avondale locations:

Phoenix Maryvale: Adam Diaz Senior Center
4100 W. Thomas Rd, Phoenix AZ

Phoenix South Mountain: Progressive Church of God in Christ
2108 E. Broadway Rd, Phoenix AZ

Phoenix Sunnyslope/ North Mountain: Covenant of Grace Church
906 W. Peoria, Phoenix AZ

Avondale: First Southern Baptist Church
1001 N. Central Ave, Avondale, AZ

Weapons such as handguns, rifles or shotguns that are operational will be exchanged for a $50 gift card to a local retailer.

Avondale and Phoenix Police Officers will accept and inspect all weapons brought to the collection site. Gun Buy Back Event Partners

wow. $50 for any gun? what idiots haha. and most people who have guns who are law obiding do lock their guns, and what good is a gun if its not loaded? I keep my glock loaded at all times, but thats my carry gun. but I have gun locks on the others with full mags ready for anything,.

az's laws it shouldn't be a problem.. i'll out do the phoenix crowd and go 75 bucks a piece..

on the loaded thing sortatough was talking about (how are you guy.. get an LE position or what) of course we keep them loaded.. and no im afraid i don't keep locks on them.. this means we have to "grandkid prof" the house when then come up, but no doubt its the right way, both G and i know where everything is stashed around the home.. works for us..

to addendums to this.. one were going down to grandparent sit in about an hour so i''ll take the new lap top, but no guarantee the daughter will know the visitor pass word..will see... other thing is on the stash thing.. to funny we have forgotten about a anti invasion stash and it was like ..wow i wondered where that one went...its fun to get old, every day is a new one... later all, late for the gatel..

offering double what the police are offering. I don't mind these buyback programs, as most people who take advantage of them are people that probably shouldn't have guns anyway. If the departments are using tax dollars, that's an issue, but if they're giving gift cards donated by private businesses, then okay.

where can i get 50?

I have an old pot metal .22 single action i would like to turn in for 50 bucks, actually i'm going to make a shifter knob out of it....yeah right,it's just gonna sit in my junk box forever.I took a Beretta .25 to 2 different gun stores today to get a trade in value for a S&W 642.One store offered 60 bucks the other,150 bucks, which is 50% of what they were asking for one on the shelf( for Runs 1.8GPA i will do the math) 300 bucks. The damn 642 was right at 405 bucks new.I guess the point is they are not offering much for guns now days, although my mouse gun isn't real...popular.

Maybe a bit low. If you were trying to sell it, they usually offer right at 50 percent below resale. You should have gotten a bit more than that for trade in since you were looking at buying something from them. then again, they have to look at the likelihood of selling what they take in and a mousegun like that .25 just isn't going to be a big seller considering the huge field of 9mm and .40 subcompacts they have nowadays.

I'm looking at using my EO Tech to trade on something, but since I've already painted it, it'll be a bit more dificult to get anything decent for it. I think I'm going to rent a table at the next local gunshow and sell off a bunch of my excess gun stuff and targets to make room and help pay for the Kreiger barrel and stock for my 7mm. I really wish I could find a buyer for my 9k or so 5.56 blank rounds, but not much of a private sector market for that stuff. Unfortunately, the powder in those rounds is not suitable for loading into live 5.56 rounds, so I'll probably just be stuck with it for a while.

It's the 552, AA-powered and night vision compatible. I love it when I use it. The EO Tech is, to me, the fastest sight on target made today. But it has an automatic four or eight hour shutoff, and for a home defense gun, I don't want to pick the gun up in the middle of the night and hope the reticle is on. That's why I prefer my Aimpoint Comp M3.
