Whats suprising to me is the amount of people I talked to that tried to tell me that Obama wasn't going to try and take our guns. I've been telling everybody that I run into about him wanting to re-instate the Clinton ban, and I've heard that he wants to add additional guns to the list. I haven't read anything at his website yet, and like I said I "heard" he wanted to expand the ban. I ought to get to reading here soon I guess. I for the life of me can't figure out why a majority of our fellow citezens voted him in office, Bush did some things that mad me scratch my head and I wasn't really excited about McCain but there was no way I was voting for Obama.

Preventing gun violence is not achieved by disregarding the second amendment. You say your commonsense gun laws will respect it, but proposing to ban "assault weapons" permanently disregards its intent entirely. Denying access to law-abiding citizens of any type of firearm will not solve your urban violence problems. Gun free zones do nothing more than ensure criminals have easy, defenseless targets. I am not a member of the NRA, and I do not, in any way, represent them. I am a loyal American Soldier who has done 39 months in Iraq, six months in Kuwait, and two months in Egypt, all since 9/11. The way to stop kids from taking guns into school is not to ban me from being able to buy a semi automatic or even fully auomatic version of the firearm I have carried while faithfully serving my nation for over 13 years. I welcome any sincere reply that is not a canned form letter and am more than willing to request leave in order to travel and have this discussion face to face with my soon-to-be Commander in Chief or any of his representatives. This is not the statement of a right-winger clinging to his guns and religion. You must understand that this issue is more than just a political debate for millions of us. It is a way of life and an expression of our independence from tyranny and oppression. Again, any reply would be most welcome.

Respectfully,
David M----

Perhaps if everybody submitted something on this, they would see where we stand and what segment of the population we make up. I'm sure they know, they know and agree with all our logic, but it's an easy way for them to justify making us defenseless so they can continue their assault on the rest of our rights with no fear of "Unintended Consequences" (great friggin' book, by the way) of their actions. If you do send an opinion to them, might I recommend keeping it tactful (not tactical) so we don't continue the stereotype.
