off topic for sure

But hey, if I still owned the ship, you could be damned sure that there would be guns (cannon) on it, check it out, my great grandfathers ship....

Hamp

My wife and I got to tour the Allissa while she was being refitted
in Galveston. She was found in a Greek wrecking yard for ships.
Her home port was Galveston and she had been converted into
a steamer and was pretty much gone. Galveston raised enough
money to tow her home and completely restore her to her original
Grander. She sailed to New York and was in the Statue of Liberty parade
several years ago. Every summer she sails the Gulf with a volunteer crew.
If you want you might check her out, who knows you might get to sail on
her for a summer

Too cool Charles

My mom and dad and I lived in Australia in the early 70's (my dad was a geologist) they got to go see miss polly after her restoration but I never have, some day...... Sailing is in my blood, I would be honored to sail with the Allissa, I will need to research her, find out what kind of ship etc.

were talking about sailing...and heres what i don't believe.. I thought i would be the only one on here who knew how to tack, or jibe. WOW !..When i lived in Tucson my best pard was a retired Sgt Major.. bout as far as you can go enlisted, and quite a character..So here i am a red neck Illinois farm boy, 4 years in the Navy but NEVER on a ship.. One thing leads to another and somehow the two of us got into sailboat racing.. (cats) quite a thril hanging out over the hull holding on to the jib line.. The most fun was shocking all the other sail types tho.. Sailing is, or at least in Tucson it was a real yuppy sport, and Frank (the Sgt Maj) and i were anything BUT yuppies. Frank was another redneck, and at the time i didn't have a car just the scoot.. All the other boats would show up towed by Volvos, and crewed by a buch o ivy leagued dressed rich folks, that paid more money for a hair cut than i paid for all the cloths on my back. We would show up with Franks old GMC, and my scoot..We sorta played the roll to the hilt for shock and awe, needles to say the "sail types" gave us a WIDE margin.. We did ok to..

a man has to hold his word, hold his beliefs, and hold a good sight picture.

to expect anything at any given moment here. LMAO
I don't go near boats anymore. I can't swim 5 feet.
I had a 19ft Ranger Bass Master Classic and had to sell
it because I couldn't put it in the water by myself any more.
Wife says you're going to hurt yourself so SELL IT
