UNDERGOUND SHELTERS...

I AM curious about the type of storm shelters you guys in da mid-west and Texas may or may not be using. considering the severiety of the tornado season so far

I have reasons for the things I do, just don't expect them to be reasonable

When growing up in north texas, our storm shelter was made of High strength concrete with rebar. Living in cen-tex now, and thinking about building a shelter/workshop. My plan is to basically bury a shipping conex, and have a concrete ramp poured. Any thoughts on this?

Would you keep the doors on the shipping container useable like a garage?
When I was in the AF, I saw 30 ton hangar doors ripped of and thrown 100s of yards. This was at Shepard AFB. Wichata Falls . My thought would be bury 2, 1 on top of the other. Use top one as garage shop and lower 1 as shelter, with a good steel door and steps or ladder down in to it. Just my 2 cents worth.

I like that idea, my first thought was to partition the inside, big doors on front, and weld a walk-thru steel door on the back side. But the idea of using two, workshop on top and shelter down below is a very good one.
