Alexander "Al" Haig, a prototype of a genuine US patriot has died at the age of 85. We have not had too many like Al. He was a 4 star General soldier's soldier, and then worked for three presidents, including being the Secretary of State for President Reagan. Many people remember him only for his famous quote, when Reagan was shot---..."I am in charge, here".... but that did not reflect that he was trying to circumvent the chain of command-- to the contrary, he wanted to assure the people of the USA that the provisions of the constitution were being followed to the letter.
Most people did not know that Al Haig had a great sense of humor, and he used it to deflate the pompous [especially liberal] asses masquerading as diplomats and "important" people. One of the best quotes I remember was a situation where he did not want to call a statement an out and out lie.
In his own inimitable style, he invented a new term, and called the statement a--
"terminological inexactitude".
I wish that we had a dozen or so folks like Al Haig, right now, in our administration. He makes Colin Powell look like a flaming liberal........ but I doubt we will see the like of him, again.

RIP, General Haig.........the Devil just swallowed hard.

short period of time, he had his own (like all flag ranks) staff of aids, but if they visited a site the local command had to assign aids as well...sorta aid to an aid thing.. so bub who was a Capt. at the time was already a bit intimidated to be meeting him, Says Haig was all most larger than life, and he never met anyone who didn't hold him in admiration.

a man has to hold his word, hold his beliefs, and hold a good sight picture.

reincarnation of George Patton, with as much guts, but with a lot more sense, and no racial or religious prejudice for anyone under his command. IMHO, I do not believe he was a hip-shooter[apology to ebear]. Al was a high-intelligence, very experienced and well rounded person, who almost never engaged in governmental group-think, and was good at projecting the future, tactically and strategically.
Illustration: When the Israelis attacked and destroyed the Iraqi nuclear complex, our President and the entire cabinet, took turns going around the table, calling the Israelis every bad name in the book and insisting on sanctions for such a dastardly deed. When it got around to Haig, he arose with fire in his eyes, and said [paraphrased], "Gentlemen--the day will come when we will all get on our knees, and thank the Almighty for what the Israelis did!!" and then walked out of the room.

RIP SIR

I wish we had a dozen of generals like him advising our presidents. Then we wouldn't be in the shit we are in today. He was a tuff, honest, and a patriot. General sir you will be missed.

America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!
