I did a bit of research and found 2 neat sites about the Carbine. Mine is a Generation 3 it has the slide lock switch on the side as well as the heat guard. Gen 3 are around 1980-till the end of manufacture Serial numbers started at 178xxx or 187xxx. Mines serial number starts a 338xxx.
