Universal M1 Carbine History.
I did a bit of research and found 2 neat sites about the Carbine. Mine is a Generation 3 it has the slide lock switch on the side as well as the heat guard. Gen 3 are around 1980-till the end of manufacture Serial numbers started at 178xxx or 187xxx. Mines serial number starts a 338xxx. http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/index.html You all should check these sites out as they have other brands that made M1 Carbines.
