I am trying to value a gun I have that I am considering selling. Its a Winchester Model 12 shotgun. I am considering selling it to get funds to buy a Big Bore Air Gun. I don't want to sell it cheap just because I didn't know its value. I realize that values vary widely but I am just looking for a ball park figure. I might even decide to keep it. It is a very attractive gun.

The Winchester Model 12 is in mint condition. I don't know if it has ever been fired. It doesn't look like it to me.

I don't know when it was manufactured.

It has no modifications and is just like it came from the factory as far as I know. Its a 12 ga full choke 30" barrel 2 3/4" chamber.

It has one feature that seems unique in that I don't see it on any but one of the photos I find on the Internet. The wood on the slide mechanism is ringed with 18 grooves, not 15. The grooves go all the way to the end and don't stop before the forward end. I have not seen this except on one picture and it was on a 16 ga gun, not a 12 ga.

Yes, I realized later that was not a good place for it as no one looks at the intros after a day or so. Just a newby mistake.

When I am at work, I am a "captive audiance" and don't have much else to do (oh well, I am getting paid..lol).

I am sure that there are many here that can give you an honest accesment of any gun which would like to sell...IMO

It is not obvious to me how one uploads photos. I went to my profile and clicked on "+Upload" and got a page about generating content and when I clicked on "Image" I was set up to edit a post with no indication of how to upload a picture. I have 8 pictures of the gun now if I could just figure out how to upload them. It is not intuitive at all.

My pictures are on my computer as .jpg files. How do I upload them to the website...or in the alternative, attach them to a message? When I go to the "image" link on the "Content" page it wants me to put in text but no provision for uploading pictures

I still dont get it.

Am I posting a message when I do that? It insists on a "title" then is just sits there uploading for a while then gives me a screen full of random phrases.

What is the intent of that software. Is it uploading a picture to "somewhere" in the ether? Or is it attaching a single picture to the bottom of a message? Or, just what is it supposed to do. It isnt doing it for me>

You click browse to find the picture on your computer. Find it, click on it, then click save. The picture will be uploaded and displayed. It DOES insist on a title. So make one up. You do not need to also do a text message. If you do, it will be included with your picture. If you don't, there will be no message. In any case, the picture will be uploaded. A discussion thread may or may not start on the picture, though most people pay attention and look at new uploads.

OK, so then I dont have the option of adding the picture to a discussion thread. It just goes up for general distribution, right? That isnt very useful. I will put all 8 pictures on Picasa and post a URL here so that those that want to see the pictures can go there. This interface just isnt designed to send a batch of pictures to a single thread for discussion.

I guess being in the stone age is an advantage sometimes. I am a guru on computers and I was expecting more.

All 8 of the pictures

http://picasaweb.google.com/jim.isbell/MiscGoodShots

This URL will get you to all 8 of the pictures. I was able to do it this way in less than 5 minutes and it got all 8 of them in one place.

The pictures are hard to take because the gun is so dark and has perfect bluing. There isnt a mark on the gun.

I am considering selling it. Havent made up my mind yet. I am wanting to find out what it might be worth if I did sell it and am still waiting on my little brothers approval to sell it. He gave it to me as a gift and I dont want to hurt his feelings by selling it. If he says no, then it wont be sold.

I am trying to get funds to purchase a Sam Yang 909S .45 cal air gun. But I have other sources if I decide not to sell the Model 12.

This is just my opinion, so, here goes.
If your bro gave it to you, maybe it meant something to him.
Maybe it don't mean squat to him. Offer the gun back to him.
It obviously doesn't mean much to you. If he won't take it, sell with a clean conscience.
Just my 2 cents.

Yep, that is what I have done. I know it didnt mean anything to him as he got it by a fluke and isnt into guns. I means SOMETHING to me, but a Sam Yang 909S would mean more...at this point in my life.... So I am awaiting his answer.

The gun is obviously re-blued.
How much do you want?
Where are you? Generic of course.

value on a reblued gun

is about half of the condition price of an original.say a original in 90% is worth 250 then a reblued in 90% is worth 125-150

Guess I will keep it. Its not reblued and I dont think its ever been shot. So for $150 I will just keep it. I will sell the El Camino instead. But thanks for the comments. It shows that selling a really nice piece is an up hill battle. I will sell my junk and keep the good stuff. I have lots of junk.

Jim I bought my Remmie 1100 for 150.00 and it won't leave my house until the good Lord takes me. My shotgun doesn't look near as nice. I am going to have it redone.

The author of that signature line is Thomas Jefferson. The guy is responsible for a lot of really revolutionary comments. Probably one of the most intelligent of the founding fathers.

My Model 12 is worth $150 just to have something to stand behind the door with and take out the first 5 people that come through it.

I used to have a Remington similar to this and in the same condition but I gave it to my son in law just before my daughter decided to make him my ex son in law. I wish she had told me it was coming and I would still have the Remington!!! He wasnt worth a $1000 shotgun...at least not from the end he got it.
