My cousin's husband remembers that at least some Viet Cong officers carried a small pistol, small enough to fit in their shirt pockets. It might possibly have been Russian made. He would like to locate one, if possible, for purchase and collection.
I don't remember ever seeing such a pistol described, or even heard of one, but there's a LOT I don't know!
Can anyone help identify the pistol, and if so, do you have any ideas on where he might locate one?
Thanks!

you're probably talking about the Makarov PM or the Tokarev TT33. The Makarov PM is smaller and would have been the one that fit into a shirt pocket. Both are Russian. Not sure where you would look to find one, but they're around

the Makarov PM was carry by many of the VC "officers" remember these guys not professional soldiers. they give rank for politic reasons for being loyal to Ho Chi Minh and to the "Party", but the russians supplied them with these pistols and there were also some that were make under license in china and supplied to the NVA regulars by them. General Giap was often seen arm only with this pistol.

Those are just about as big as 1911s. Makarov is probably it.

Thanks!

Thanks to all of you. The Makarov does make more sense, because it would fit in a big enough pocket, whereas the Tokarev certainly wouldn't. Makarovs were at one time available all over the place, for very little money (depending on what country they were made in). If he has to have one made in Russia, he'll have to be prepared to shell out for it. If he wants to shoot it, 9x18 ammo is around. Lucky, I agree with you on the quality, but I don't think the guy cares that much. I believe that he just wants to collect it, as a memento of his time in Nam.

Makarovs were really small and were in 9mm

Tokarovs were a decent size and were in 7.62x25mm

9mm makarov

Is a 9 x 18 mm, with a bullet diameter of about 9.2mm,
and are not the same as our 9mm or .380s

I'm black and mexican and chinese and martian and missourian and polish and confused. And I'm also half American and half Polynesian, so you can call me Amnesian. I forgot what we were talking about. I'm also half Irish and half polich, so I'm always drunk and pissed, but I don't know why. I'm also half jew and half Arab, so I hate myself and I fast all the time.

I have thought about going in for a psych eval, being as normal as possible, and getting a clean report. That way, when someone calls me crazy, I can whip out the report and say "I've had a doctor say I'm okay, what do you have"? Hah hah hah. I'm cool.

See? This is why

I need to be able to walk around with a clean psych eval in my wallet. For those spontaneous moments when someone attempts to slander me by making these comments. I'd sue you for that, snake, but Ithink you're right.

So...

When you boys getting a room at the "No-Tell Motel" and getting all that tension released?

I can smell the unrequited gay love from here.

D.

PS there actually used to be a fleabag motel called the "No-Tel Motel" in Tucson just off of Speedway. They tore it down a few years ago. So I guess you guys will have to settle for Holiday Inn Express.
