HANOI, Vietnam – The United States is providing $1 million to help authorities in Vietnam locate and identify the remains of Vietnamese soldiers missing in action during the war. The U.S. embassy says in a Friday statement the money will assist Vietnamese officials searching for, identifying, and documenting its troops who went missing.

Are you freaking kidding me?? Just goes to show what kind of panzy ass blockheads we have in power. Did we borrow the 1 million from China to give to Vietnam?? Where's the millions for us to search for our boys that were blown to bit's over there?

Infuriating

The government lied to us about the need for us to go in there. Then they didn't back us up when we could have won the combat. Now they're paying the Vietnamese to locate their people.
This is NOT democracy in action. This is just further betrayal.

What do you mean? Deedeemoued?

And people say we lost the war, buuuuut... who makes our shoes now? Last time I checked, Vietnam wasn't really a hardline Communist country. We may not have accomplished our goals through the Vietnam War, but in the long run, we still won out economically.

Sometimes spelled de de mau.. pronounced D D MAU.. literal "get out of dodge"

not correcting Lucky, whos a buddy and vet from that era.. Just setting the record straight..

SD.. I'm going to quote you here.. you said

"who makes our shoes now? Last time I checked, Vietnam wasn't really a hardline Communist country. We may not have accomplished our goals through the Vietnam War, but in the long run, we still won out economically"..

How did we win economically.. splain it to me lucy.. I don't see how sending our jobs to a third world nation, and losing our manufacturing base is winning anything.. Don't see how what ever they are (cap or com) makes any diffrence as all most all of our debt is now owned by the Chinese (who are the only "pure" communists) i can't see any diffrence at all..

Except that 58,000... thats Fifty eight thousand Americans died for it..

I mean that...

...in the end, America always wins. I guess that sounds kinda stupid, but our economy is (usually) so powerful that these piss-ant countries end up as wage slaves in sweat shops making our stuff. 'Course, like somebody said, we've lost all our manufacturing jobs, but on the other hand, per capita I think Americans are still the wealthiest people in the world, as far as countries that matter (unlike Luxembourg) go.

You see what I'm getting at? I know I'm not explaining this well.

Forgoten most of my Yavinese.. Not sure if she's outer or inner rim anyway.. but a good sort..

TL.. I'm glad your aware of those familys.. Also sure that the war was not ONLY political in it's original form (Turner Joy incident, Golf of Tonken resolution etc) but was fought on a political footing as well.

I've been reading an account of the two air crews (VP NAVY VP-26) our Squadron lost, and the author (LT Wilson) of one of the accounts makes a valid point stating that Hyphong harbor could have been mined at the same probable loss of two 12 man air crews..

This harbor was the major resupply point for N Vietnam, and arguably one of the busiest ports in the world durring this era.. We never stopped, or attempted to stop the flow of materials into this harbor for obvious political reasons, while at the same time suffering the ground result of the continued flow of war matterials into the North from China, and N Korea..

Point being simply that politics were in many ways responsible for the loss of those 58 thousand troops (and 24 squadron mates) that were lost..

I have doubts on Afganistan..We've all heard that expressed by others here many times, yet i believe that if this is left to the military as opposed to the politicians, our troops will be home sooner, and be less likley to have died in vain.. or to develope another third world shoe manufacturer..

I want to take this oppertunity to acknowledge the obvious lack of spell check, alas its as flat broken as my spelling so my appolgies to all including that F'n horse of Reaps..

Greg AZ: Vietnam

Greg,

Vietnam was just one cluster F after another from everything I have read and ever heard. Of course I was not there, so many people will know more than I about this. It just seems an embarrassment in almost every way and a terrible waste of life. When I was a kid everything was still about Vietnam... I loved hearing the stories some of the vets would tell me and as dumb as it sounds I wanted to join the army to go to war as well... (Stupid Youth)

Once I had my war I moved on and decided that only young and foolish men seek such things and now I have kids to keep me in check.

Afghanistan was and is a weird situation that makes almost no sense at all in my humble honest opinion... It is like Arizona in many ways, but more opium fields... But the people there are actually quite interesting and honorable despite what the media shows, or does not show.

Anyway... To bed I go in a few...

Yavin 13 was one of the three habitable moons of Yavin Prime.

Geography
Yavin 13 had a hot and arid climate, and was mainly covered in deserts, rocky plains and cacti forests. However, the moon also had grassy plains and much of its southern hemisphere was covered by open, shallow seas which spread what little moisture there was on the moon into the atmosphere.
Yavin 13's surface also resembled Byss cheese from space. Yavin 13's two sentient species were the rodentlike Gerbs and the serpentine Slith species.

Society and history
Yavin 13 had no planetary government and was instead governed by separate tribes. Due to its remote location in the Outer Rim, Yavin 13 had no allegiance to any galactic government though it was occasionally visited by treasure hunters including the Rodian Suz Tanwa, who became a famed xenoarchaeologist in the New Republic era.
The Slith had a nomadic hunter-gatherer society and were mainly concentrated on the moon's rocky regions while the Gerbs lived in tiny communities in underground warrens and farmed the moon's grasslands. The two separate species were able to live in peace and often left each other alone. Both species also knew nothing or little about offworld affairs and technology since none had left Yavin 13.

Following the capture of the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4 by the Peace Brigade and the Yuuzhan Vong in 26 ABY, the Yuuzhan Vong exterminated all life on Yavin 13, wiping out both the Gerbs and Sliths.[3]

What's this bull shit about Vietnam not being all that Communist and making our shoes? That's like saying Hitler wasn't all that bad because he only killed 8 million Jews. It was all a mistake and Roosevelt's fault. All I remember about Vietnam is a bunch of my high school buddies enlisting and not coming back, our POWs being tortured, and our idiot politicians losing the war for us. That war is always somewhere in my head and it's torture to remember those days. People my age don't talk about it much because we are still pissed.

And Japan. Hey, that Bataan death march was just a mistake. Don't the Japanese make our cars, now? That is just so much naive, simplistic, idiotic bull shit that I can't see straight.

I am confused as to how this got to where ever this is going here...

Vietnam was one of our largest mistakes in almost all ways.. Many people died and nothing was accomplished. Politicians played Generals and nothing good came of any of it.

I know this is a comment further back before Vietnam war but I heard that the Jap's Mitsubishi company built the planes that bombed pearl harbor. I know this has nothing to do with the post but I though I would share this rumor as I dont know if its true or not.

It's so easy to just forget the reality of history.. McCain had an honest moment when he said (then did the whole PC crapola thing) they died in vain..

Nice night, and time to leave and hate to do it on a downer.. but fact is 58 thousand.. And so much more than that.. i typed up a long, (pretty damn good to) thing on the "list of danger rangers" thread SD did.. You guys know i make it clear i wasn't in the same sorta danger as others..etc, etc, So obviously nothing but observation of others.. last night about this time i had it finnished.. and thought.. nope.. don't even want to talk about it.. so just deleted it..

Anyway maybe we can learn from our mistakes and not have a repeat in Afganistan..

Not long ago he said he has forgiven the enemy

I'm sure for the most part he is probably right.
