War!!!

What are the chances of a major war starting in the Middle East? I am 19 years old, will I be drafted? Hell no I won't go! By choice only, not at the whims of some wannabe dictator sucking a pacifier.

As an active duty NCO, I can say I would hate to have you in my army. If you don't want to serve, I don't want to serve with you. Seems easy enough to me.

"I have always been a soldier. I have known no other life. The calling of arms, I have followed from boyhood. I have never sought another." From The Virtues of War, by Steven Pressfield.

Welcome however you may be not be happy here if your not into guns, yes we may talk about other things but the common denominator is guns, by saying you will not go if your drafted is an insult to those who have been, you see today we have a completely volunteer millitary one the few in the world, but that is relatively new (draft was stopped in the mid 70s I think). We have may vets on here and and alot of Viet Nam war vets, now when I here hell no I wont go it reminds me of the insults my Dad and Stepdad went through when they got back from Nam, and its is wrong.

one thing you may want to remember is as I said there are A LOT of veterans and active duty on the site and you words can be taken as insulting, btw what group is your friend with that he is taking a mission trip to a warzone?

I honestly dont think I would be useful in the military but if drafted I would go and proudly serve. I agree 100% with Hamp. My papaw is a WWII vet his name is not in no book nor is it spoke of on TV however he went and protected the land he called home when war was waged. He served proudly he is a hero of this nation as are all military active and retired. My biological father is a Desert Storm vet,I know very little on what he did as I never met the man. All I know is he is still alive. As for my step father he would have been an air force pilot in Nam if it wasnt for his flat feet. He went to join up but was denied. And if it is needed that I sign up and go to war then by god I will go and I will do my duty to keep this nation free. I would be lying if I said I aint afraid of dyin but death is part of war. If I was to die on the battlefield then it was meant to be but know this if I do die in combat I died protecting america and all who call it home and to protect freedom. I may not come home a war hero and I may not be remembered in history for what I do in war but I will fight with every ounce of my being to keep this nation free from all threat foreign and domestic.

Cillyvilian I dont know you that well but your makin a bad name for ya self here. Like R3Bauer said and I quote "one thing you may want to remember is as I said there are A LOT of veterans and active duty on the site and you words can be taken as insulting".

Greg it was stepfather

and I am goin on what he had told me. I dont have any proof of that or anything about my stepfather as a military man. Frankly not to put my stepfather down but Ive known him 17 years and I just dont see him as a military type of any kind. I hope this clears it up pal.

Got ya Jon...

Heres the deal, lot of geezers, and semi geezers want to impress family members so you get that "i would have been a pilot" thing..

Believe me im not slapping you around Jon, trying to key you in on the diffrence between BS and being a "stand up guy"..

You always have to be careful when you say something like that "he would have been a "whatever" cause fact is ANYONE can say thats the case but if thiers not other things to back it up, then ...nope...

As an example, lets say the Uncle was a college grad, and had taken ROTC, or was already a pilot, "THEN" its cool to back his play ..

Hope your with me Jon.. This is not about slapping you around, its about you turning into something.. We like ya boy.. Thats the reason that so many wanted you back..

Tell you something else.. I've read a lot of comments from 2 years ago.. Sam did a lot of "hard love" on ya as he wanted the same thing..

Ok .. just get what im saying here.. always be careful about saying stuff like "my neighbor would have been a SEAL if it weren't for his flat feet"... unless of course your neighbor does a couple thousand situps a day, can sleep standing up, and only needs 2 hrs a day doing it, and swim faster than i can jog (thats the older SEALS, young one can do that underwater) .. Hope you get my point and don't take it personally...
