went shooting today
put a 100 rounds thru my Ruger Superblack Hawk.44 magnum and 1/2 that thru my 1895S Marlin lever action, shooting pumpkins. My impression: I never want to be on the receiving side of a 44magnum bullet. The Ruger is going to get a port job.The Marlin rifle kicks ass. i tried being reasonable,i didn't like it,

Lucky, if I may ask, where do you get your .44mag ammo? Do you reload it? It's as expensive as heck. I finally found some .44 special to practice with, thought it would be a lot cheaper. It really isn't that much cheaper.
luckybychoice
winchester white,35 dollars a box of 50, yeah it sucks but i can;t even find 44 special here locally.

Thanks lucky. I'll go look at my local wally world for some. I guess the good thing is, a .44 mag is a gun that I don't really want to shoot a lot anyways. LOL.

i was getting the crap kicked out of me shooting that SBH,I have hesitated to get the barrel ported but not anymore,my dan wesson was ported and shot like a dream.
survey question : Taurus double action 44 mag tracker or S&W double action 44.mag mountain gun? Taurus was 400 (used) the S&W 625.00 ( used) asking price.both 4" barrels, stainless, black hogue grip
what 44 are you shooting?
Caber
I have an Astra 44 mag with a 2 1/2 inch barrel in stainless with pachmayr grips, and I love it. But You can't beat the Taurus guarantee.

I need to find someplace to shoot my new baby. Just picked up an AR-15!

what brand? will you got lots of woods and swamps?Or if you what to go long range 1,000 yards miakka has a 1,000 range they let you shoot the 1,000 part once a month but might be more now. Or come over to shoot straight tampa or clearwater ..............
MattyTheJet
It's a DPMS with an AWESOME scope on it and the collapsible stock, used to belong to J3t3rArmy. I've actually thought about going to shoot straight to see what their place is like and check out their selection. Worth the trip?
tallguy007
Matty tampa one has 100 yrds a few of them clearwater one has 1 or 2 tampa closer to you they r a big box type of store stuff animals every where or and no pic taking they say grrrr I like out door shoot but in door dose the job............ call ahead prices and rsvp maybe for lane....
MattyTheJet
Thanks! Definitely something I'm going to look in to. Funny, I was in Tampa today, but it was for work.

Lucky almost thought you were talking about me! did the same but only 60 through the Blackhawk 30-.45 LC and 30- .45 acp the Marlin I have is a 1895SS in .45-70 one of my favorites to shoot.
Matty hope you have better luck then me, also just picked up a Colt LEM4 guess I need to do some more cleaning and lube, had trouble with FTF single shot it though and 11" group at 100yds with the factory open sights! thought that was OK for the first time out. Really need to get set up on some optics thinking about a reddot any sugestions?
luckybychoice
i want one ! Marlin guide gun,4 or 5 rounds ss with a big loop,i know the ammo is expensive but gaewd damn! i dunno AKAI how do you like shooting that round? is it punishing recoil or does the butt pad absorb the recoil good enough.?
my .44 set up
Saint J.M. Browning
A Ruger No. 1 in .45-70 would be awesome! I've never fired one before, but I don't think it would be as bad as you would think. Like the .45 Colt, it was made as a black powder round, so they have to keep the pressures at that to keep from blowing up older guns.
AKAI
Marlin 1895SS 4+1 in chamber, Don't have the big loop yet but did put on some Williams peep sights. Wouldn't want to shoot it all day only has about 3/16" pad, and pretty punishing for an old fart like me, but I love it! I'll post a few pix when I get this pix thing figured out!
