he was up very late working very hard with vic and mike and jon of the design team, and between them they got an extraordinary amount of work done along with my youngest boy and his friend gary, both of whom had sense enough to go to bed to sleep. They are at the tournament this morning and will be home in a couple more hours.

mossberg or remington

When i bought my wingmaster i thought about the mossberg, as i liked the price, and the feel better. But an armorer friend who's a real shotguner suggested the wingmaster, based on a couple of things, first being the pump action had two as opposed to one actuating rod. (this might have changed in 25 yrs) Our agency, AZ dept. of corrections had both, and the aromors i became friends with over a couple of decades swore by the 870, they got rough use as they were constanty being used at the ranges for qualifing. In the old days before we transitioned to the Glock and adapeted the same qualifications as street LE, we did more shotgun, than pistol training, and the Armory ONLY issued the 870 for qualifying due to maintenince issues. I'm not sure any of that really matters. If you get hit with a one ounce slug from a single shot your a goner, or a better man than me if you can stay upright.

I have a Mossy 835 with a barrel cut down to 19" and it works great. I got a stock barrel for it off GunBroker for 15 bucks, so I can still use it in the field if I want. In my opion you can't go wrong with a Mossy 500 or 835...or a Rem. 870. They are all great guns for the money!

Mossberg or Remington

are both excellent choices in home defense guns. Toosk, a pistol is a terrible choice for a home defense gun compared to a shotgun. And what is "too much frill"?

i have the moss 835 ultimag turkey choke. its amazing. i stand by it all the way, never had one problem with it, maybe a little heavy but shoots like a champ. i take it skeet shooting all the time and the fiberoptic sights are perfect. easy to clean. etc. i dont know much about the remmy but im sure its good too.

shotty

I have the same shotty as Builtf0rdtough (Moss 835 ulti-mag turkey choke). Its great for all birds. If you're using it for defense you may want a shorter bbl. It can chamber 3 1/2" shells, so it packs a punch (a 3 1/2" 00 18 pellet will wake you up!) Also the turkey bbl is overbored to 10 ga. so you can't shoot slugs out of it. If you want to hunt deer with it I would suggest getting the rifled slugger bbl.

I myself, am about the get the rem 870 desert tac rifle stock 18" bbl 12 ga. I should have it within a month.... hopefully. Probably just use it for defense, no hunting.

I have always used Mossbergs and Remingtons. If you were going for home protection only, I would say go with a Mossberg 500 due to low price and availability, but since you want to hunt with it as well, definitely an 870 Model Remington with 2-3 barrels depending on what you are hunting. One rifled, One choked, and one shorter smooth bore and you would be set for whatever two or four legged variety you happened to be aiming at. For Home defense, or deer type applications, I recommend: Polywad's Quik-Shok slugs
Great for big game hunting, Polywad's Quik-Shok Sabot Slugs are loaded to 1,500 fps. The patented Quik-Shok slug is .68 caliber as opposed to the .50 caliber slug that most other 12 Gauge sabot slugs use.

The Quik-Shok slug weighs 1-1/8 oz. (492 grains) and splits into three massive segments after penetrating liquid or tissue, even at ranges beyond 100 yards.

That causes three major wound channels, guaranteed to give your bad guy or Bambi a bad day.

If you are not just a little bit crazy, then you are not quite sane...
