I thought I would do it differently, this year. It always seemed lame to me to wish everyone a "happy Memorial Day"--so I did not do that, on the last Monday of May. Instead, I thought of the original holiday--called "Decoration Day", when I was a youngster, and that reminded me that we went to the cemeteries and decorated the graves with flags or buntings. That reminded me of the heroes, and so now, I recite to you, the ones from my family:
WWI- Great Uncle; Physician's Assistant: Two Purple Hearts, Gassed in combat, France.
WWII- Uncle- Chief Hospital Corpsman/battlefield commission to Lieutenant SG; Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, NAVY CROSS; Guadalcanal and Okinawa.
I did not include myself because I did not accomplish anything like THOSE listed above: After all, it was only a "Police Action" per President Harry S. Truman.
I hope most of us had our remembrances going back to such outstanding US military members.!!
