It's late, Gloria fell asleep after 24, and im wide awake at 1 am.. still thinking about my day on Sunday. Thought since i had such a great time this might be a good time to share some positive stuff, and my day Sunday was just that..

Quick background info..My only surviving Aunt and Uncle are celebrating thier 60th wedding anniversary this coming Friday, so in preperation for the event (big reception, and meal in scotsdale) the wife decided she needed a new outfit.. As the majority of you guys are married, im sure nothing further is needed here. With the exception of a disclaimer that the wife is very thrifty ie cheap.. and while she might take a long time to find the right item, i know the price will be great when she does.. As we were also celebrating all going well with my med procedure i thought i would tag along and maybe look at guns while Gloria did her shopping.

Bottom line is i sure wish you all could have been we me last Sunday in Prescott when i got to spend 4 hrs hanging out in gun shops.. went to two large ones, and just flat had fun.. Normally when we go to Prescott its a time deal, and I'll go to J&G (cause of the prices) and just make a quick tour.. This was a long "hands on" of two big stores.. Been a long time since ive had as much fun.. Even told G that this was the perfect gun guy day..You know how we all sorta know what each others tastes and favorites in firearms are.. and telling you i saw a lot of stuff that I know you guys would have loved to have..

I don't know if it was because of Sunday or what, but a lot of families were in the larger of the two stores, and it was great watching Dad, Mom, and the kids looking at guns, big smiles on thier faces, made me think that maybe it's all going to work out fine.. I resisted buying a weapon, but found a couple three that im pretty sure will be narrowed to one, and pretty sure might be gregs by this time next week.. Were on a fixed income so im not going to jump into what i really want..But will see.. I was pretty excited about a victory model S&W that Sam put me in touch with, but while its a 38, unfortunately like most of the lend lease pieces that went to England, its not a 38 "special".. So i have a feeling that were going for something a bit different now.. Of the pieces i saw, the one that im most excited about is a Rock Island arms 1911 in 9MM.. This is a typical 1911 knockoff, and interchangeable with the Springfield mil spec model.. Springfield shows this in 9MM, but i've been told its about impossible to get.. Anyway i pretty much fell in love with this piece. Same feel (sights etc) as a series 70 for you 1911 guys.. The other one that im excited about is an old mil surp 7.62 Nagant that i don't think has had a round thru it.. You can feel the history in this puppy when you pick it up.. Any of you guys have any experiance with the Nagant ?.. I've seen them advertised a long time, but never had or fired one.. Ecaman and i were talking about this last night, they have an odd lock up, the cylinder goes fwd into battery.. The one im looking at is a DA, comes with holster and cleaning rod, price is about 250 less than the 1911, at 189.. I really don't think its had a round thru it (yet!!!) and while thats not an issue at all, its pretty neat to find a mint mil surp piece. even the wood grips have those sharp edges of a new piece, and of course as a mil piece (Chinese markings) its got a lanyard, which i like.. Ok enough late night rambling, so what are your thoughts here ??

Greg,

sounds like a super great time......Question, are these gun stores in
your neck of the woods the kind that have all the guns out but tethered
or are they all under glass?

All of the stores that I have been in here in Utah have them all under glass
(Utah law maybe?)...Anywho, I can imagine having a pissed off clerk if I
were to spend several hours handling all of the guns and not buying
anything....LOL

Yep, that sure would be cool spending all of that time handling the hardware,
It just isn't the same looking at it through the glass.

Another thought, most stores around here only seem to have 2 maybe 3
clerks at the gun counter (even the bigger places like Cabelas) so on top
of pissed off clerks, think of the people waiting for me to touch everything
LOL

nagants

I have 6 of them. 2 M38's, 2 M44's and 2 91/30's. All great shooters. The M44's and M38's (carbines) kick like raped apes, but they're great. you can pick them up from $69-$189 depending on condition, with exeception of the original 91/30 sniper with original glass. I think those go for around $500-$600. Just be aware that all the old mil-surp ammo is corrosive. Brown Bear, Silver Bear, and Golden Bear make new production ammo though.

Hamp..

the pistols are under glass, and the long arms are out.. the only ones off limit were a couple of barrett 50's.. I never have any issues there, as in my experiance gun stores (not the big box boys, but the independents) are just great.

I always make it clear from the begining i can't take one home today.. Or when buying (i find this works real well) i'll say.. i'm going to take one home, IF we can get together on price.. You can't always go by any of the book values.. Sometimes the store will have more in a piece..and sometimes its the other way around.. if i see a piece marked at or below value i know they own it well.. and thats the sorta thing you can get a great deal on..

Anyway for what ever reason they were great on Sunday, and even tho i had made it clear, asked me many times if i wanted to look at anything.. the two i did really spend time looking at the 1911 and the Nagant. they sorta left me alone with them.. both times i had to get thier attention to give them back..

and yep im sure wanting that 1911 this morning.. ive owned a number of 1911's but never a 9, always wanted a lt wt commander in 9. Just a matter of price now..
